I'm tri-booting Windows, Fedora, and Ubuntu 14.04 LTS (all 64). Learning but not using dpkg, apt, and http://askubuntu.com/questions/637014/gcc-fails-to-compile apt-get. Starting to study C++ using Ubuntu (the only one with gcc installed). So on my first attempted compile I gave the command gcc xy.cc and got the following: gcc: error trying to exec 'cc1plus' : execvp: No such file or directory So I searched my computer for cc1plus and execvp. And found neither. Just execvp.3.gz in directory /user/share/man/man3 and cc1 in /user/lib/gcc/x86_64-linux-gnu/4.8 . So a whole bunch if work and learnig about the package getters and checkers, but no courage to remove and reinstall etc. Do you have some suggestions? Using one the package system front ends apt-get, synaptic, software manager, or a number of others it will install the

Well, you may be reading this because you started installing or compiling a package from source on your Fedora too, and the error message below; is what you see: gcc: error trying to exec 'cc1plus': execvp: No such file or directory error: command 'gcc' failed with exit status 1 ---------------------------------------- Cleaning up... ANSWER: no such file You need g++ in order to go through this. On Fedora the package name is gcc-c++ Open Terminal as root user and run: # yum install gcc-c++ Re-run what you were doing and this error you pass. Enjoy!

It covgot the following error: 1 2 gcc: error trying to exec 'cc1plus': execvp: No such file or directory error: command 'gcc' failed with exit status 1 Even though this doesn’t matter so much (as it can happen in other cases also) the software that I was trying to install was the perl module Encode::Detect. If you have a problem like this one (even if you are trying to compile a different software) you might want to doublecheck and see if you have g++ installed on the system. In my case a simple since the system was running Debian all I had to do was: 1 aptitude install g++ and this solved my issue and the compilation finished successfully.
