I don't know what I'm doing on my Linux machine so I need help. When I type ifconfig I only get the lo link encap:local loopback. There is no eth0. I tried $sudo ifconfig eth0 up and got the "eth0: ERROR while getting interface flags: no such device" When I type $lspci I see "02:0c.0 Ethernet controller: 3Com Corporation Unknown device ffff (rev 78)". So I assume it can see my integrated LAN connection on the mobo. Is that right? When I use the menu and go to system|admin|network I don't have a wired connection option just a modem connection. My machine connects to a switch which is connected to an AT&T residential gateway. AT&T had to replace the gateway and switch after the lightning strike. I also tried to install a new network card but that caused some Plug and Play configuration erros to appear on boot up so I t

I'm able to connect to the Internet using this same cable using a Windows machine, so there's something wrong with the way Linux is configured. How do I got about figuring out what the problem is and solving it?
