Quote Postby asaaki » 2012/10/01 09:56:06 My xm mainw h site is hosted on CentOS 6.3 (final), and I need to use the latest version of Ghostscript (version 9.06), which apparently needs to use the X11 library.I ran the following https://lists.ubuntu.com/archives/ubuntu-users/2008-March/138933.html command to get X11 on my machine:Code: Select allyum groupinstall X11But I don't think it's installed properly... because when I try to install Ghostscript, I get the following error:Code: Select all../gs/base/x_.h:135:29: error: X11/Intrinsic.h: No such file or directoryI run ls on /etc/X11 and get the following:Code: Select all./ ../ applnk/ fontpath.d/ prefdm* X11@ xinit/ Xmodmap xorg.conf.d/ XresourcesSo Intrinsic.h really isn't http://www.centos.org/forums/viewtopic.php?t=5933 in this folder. Apparently I have X11 libraries in /usr/include and /usr/lib64/ too... but they don't have Intrinsic.h either. What on earth is going on? I'm still kind of new to Linux and completely new to X11 and Ghostscript. I've been searching around but haven't found solutions. There's a version of ghostscript 8.70 in the updates repo that will have all the latest security updates applied to it.Why do you think you need 9.x? Even if I weren't using Ghostscript. Does the X11 library normally have Intrinsic.h? Top TrevorH Forum Moderator Posts: 16843 Joined: 2009/09/24 10:40:56 Locat

Everything was going fine with ./configure and make, but then I got the following error: ../gs/base/x_.h:135:29: error: X11/Intrinsic.h: No such file or directory After which I got a list of errors with funny â characters, looking like this: ../gs/base/gdevx.c:1138: error: âgx_device_Xâ no such file has no member named âtextâ What's the problem here, and what's the fix? I thought it was a symlink problem, so I checked where my X11 directory was and ran the following command: ln -s X11 /usr/include/X11 I ran make again but no difference. Any ideas? Edit Here are the first few lines of the errors... the rest are all pretty much the same: ../gs/base/x_.h:135:29: error: X11/Intrinsic.h: No such file or directory ../gs/base/x_.h:136:30: error: X11/StringDefs.h: No such file or directory ../gs/base/x_.h:137:25: error: X11/Shell.h: No such file or directory In file included from ../gs/base/gdevx.c:33: ../gs/base/gdevx.h:30: error: expected â=â, â,â, â;â, âasmâ or â__attribute__â before âgdev_x_resourcesâ ../gs/base/gdevx.h:32: error: expected â=â, â,â, â;â, âasmâ or â__attribute__â before âgdev_x_fallback_resourcesâ ../gs/base/gdevx.h:119: error: expected specifier-qualifier-list before âPixelâ ../gs/base/gdevx.c:217: warning: excess elements in struct initializer ../gs/base/gdevx.c:217: warning: (near initialization for âgs_x11_deviceâ) ../gs/base/gdevx.c:217: warning: excess elements in struct initializer ../gs/base/gdevx.c:217: warning: (near initialization for âgs_x11_deviceâ) ../gs/base/gdevx.c:217: error: extra brace group at end of initializer ../gs/base/gdevx.c:217: error: (near initialization for âgs_x11_deviceâ) And the last few lines are: make[2]: *** [obj/gdevx.o] Error 1 make[2]: Leaving directory `/root/ghostpdl-9.06/main' make[1]: *** [pdl-product] Error 2 make[1]: Leaving directory `/root/ghostpdl-9.06/main' make: *** [pcl] Error 2 build install x11 g
on the XEphem mailing list. It was a simple case of a missing include file, where the only trick is to find out what package you need to install to get that file. (This is complicated on Ubuntu, which the poster was using, by the way they fragment the X developement headers into a maze of a xillion tiny packages.) The solution -- apt-file -- is so simple and easy to use, and yet a lot of people don't know about it. So here's how it works. The poster reported getting these compiler errors: ar rc libz.a adler32.o compress.o crc32.o uncompr.o deflate.o trees.o zutil.o inflate.o inftrees.o inffast.o ranlib libz.a make[1]: Leaving directory `/home/gregs/xephem-3.7.4/libz' gcc -I../../libastro -I../../libip -I../../liblilxml -I../../libjpegd -I../../libpng -I../../libz -g -O2 -Wall -I../../libXm/linux86 -I/usr/X11R6/include -c -o aavso.o aavso.c In file included from aavso.c:12: ../../libXm/linux86/Xm/Xm.h:56:27: error: X11/Intrinsic.h: No such file or directory ../../libXm/linux86/Xm/Xm.h:57:23: error: X11/Shell.h: No such file or directory ../../libXm/linux86/Xm/Xm.h:58:23: error: X11/Xatom.h: No such file or directory ../../libXm/linux86/Xm/Xm.h:59:34: error: X11/extensions/Print.h: No such file or directory In file included from ../../libXm/linux86/Xm/Xm.h:60, from aavso.c:12: ../../libXm/linux86/Xm/XmStrDefs.h:1373: error: expected `=', `,', `;', `asm' or `__attribute__' before `char' In file included from ../../libXm/linux86/Xm/Xm.h:60, from aavso.c:12: ../../libXm/linux86/Xm/XmStrDefs.h:5439:28: error: X11/StringDefs.h: No such file or directory In file included from ../../libXm/linux86/Xm/Xm.h:61, from aavso.c:12: ../../libXm/linux86/Xm/VirtKeys.h:108: error: expected `)' before `*' token In file included from ../../libXm/linux86/Xm/Display.h:49, from ../../libXm/linux86/Xm/DragC.h:48, from ../../libXm/linux86/Xm/Transfer.h:44, from ../../libXm/linux86/Xm/Xm.h:62, from aavso.c:12: ../../libXm/linux86/Xm/DropSMgr.h:88: error: expected specifier-qualifier-list before `XEvent' ../../libXm/linux86/Xm/DropSMgr.h:100: error: expected specifier-qualifier-list before `XEvent' How do you go about figuring this out? When interpreting compiler errors, usually what matters is the *first* error. So try to find that. In the transcript above, the first line saying "error:" is this one: ../../libXm/linux86/Xm/Xm.h:56:27: error: X11/
