It is probably nothing wrong with your code. It is most likely a problem with the installation of IE, registration of some DLLs. In t

Is there a better alternative than walking the DOM and creating nodes? (I've seen http://stackoverflow.com/questions/1811116/ie-support-for-dom-importnode the clasic article by Anthony Holdener but its more than a year old now, and I'm hoping that either IE has evolved, or someone has another workarround) Thanks. javascript internet-explorer dom share|improve this question asked Nov 28 '09 at 0:28 Moose Morals 767926 Here's a related question with an implementation. –Phrogz Mar 26 '12 at 11:38 add a comment| 3 Answers 3 active oldest votes up vote 4 down vote accepted I haven't heard this has changed yet, and in a recent post by John Resig, he states: Internet Explorer doesn't support importNode or adoptNode Also see this A List Apart article on cross-browser importnode() as it includes a specific work-around for Internet Explorer. To quote for posterity, The solution to all of my problems was to not use a DOM method after all, and instead use my own implementation. Here, in all of its glory, is my final solution to the importNode() problem coded in a cross-browser compliant way: (Line wraps marked » —Ed.) if (!document.ELEMENT_NODE) { document.ELEMENT_NODE = 1; document.ATTRIBUTE_NODE = 2;

The error I get from IE is "No such interface supported", the offending code (with the error line in bold) is: Code: var elToUpdate = document.getElementById(id); var currentChildren = elToUpdate.childNodes; while (currentChildren.length > 0) { elToUpdate.removeChild(currentChildren[0]); } var newChildren = changes[i].getElementsByTagName("content")[0].childNodes; while (newChildren.length > 0) { elToUpdate.appendChild(newChildren[0]); } The aim is obviously to replace the current contents of the div with the supplied elements. Two things to note: 1. the element being updated in this case is a div. 2. the newChildren var is an XML DOM from an XMLHttpRequest response. I haven't found anyone else complaining about this, which usually means I'm doing something blindingly stupid. Feel free to tell me so, I'd really appreciate any help!
