I have Nagios monitoring multiple switches. I have it monitoring three right now, more will be added later on. There are two 48 port switches and one 24 port switch. The two 48 port switches are cisco 2950 switches and the 24 port is a 3560. The two 48 port switches return everything fine with port status and bandwidth no such object available on this agent at this oid usage. the 24 port switch reports back bandwidth properly but not for the port status. It gives the error: "External command error: Error in packet" The thing that bothers me about this is that port 1 comes back with "SNMP OK - 1" but all of the others give that error. I checked my configurations and unless the command should be something else I am stumped. Config for port 1 - define service{ use generic-service ; Inherit values from a template host_name sw1 service_description Port 1 Link Status check_command check_snmp!-C public -o ifOperStatus.1 -r 1 -m RFC1213-MIB } Config for port 2 - define service{ use generic-service ; Inherit values from a template host_name sw1 service_description Port 2 Link Status check_command check_snmp!-C public -o ifOperStatus.2 -r 1 -m RFC1213-MIB } Anyone see something I do not? currently trying to montitor Palo-Alto-Firewalls. I'm able https://www.mail-archive.com/nagios-users@lists.sourceforge.net/msg36786.html to retrieve information via snmpwalk from the firewall: root@nagios:# snmpwalk -v 2c -c public 192.168.2.1 1.3.6.1.4.1.25461.2.1.2.3.3 iso.3.6.1.4.1.25461.2.1.2.3.3.0 = INTEGER: 591 If i try doing the same via the Nagios Check-Plugin check_snmp i get: root@nagios:# /usr/lib/nagios/plugins/check_snmp -H 192.168.2.1 -P 2c -C public -o 1.3.6.1.4.1.25461.2.1.2.3.3 External command error: no such Error in packet Reason: (noSuchName) There is no such variable name in this MIB. Failed object: iso.3.6.1.4.1.25461.2.1.2.3.3 What the heck? Why do I actually get information via snmpwalk but not via check_snmp? Any hints?
