AMHi, I have created a template with a userform that opens and gets relevant infomation off the user, and places it within certain fields under the document properties, and updates the document. If I open this up as a template, the userform runs, takes the infomation, http://www.vbaexpress.com/forum/archive/index.php/t-3105.html places it in the correct places and closes fine. However if i double click the file, to https://www.experts-exchange.com/questions/20385621/error-5981-could-not-open-macro-storage.html open it as a document based on the template (which i want it to eventually do), the userform will crash when attempting to update any of the fields, giving the following "Run-time error '5981' Could not open macro storage." I am using Word 97, on windows 2000 pro. I haven't tried it on any other systems yet. I have attached the file here, and any help would be greatly appreciated, not open and hopefully its something simple. I understand that the userform doesn't run automatically when its opened as a document, but i think this is relatively easy to sort out. Cheers in advance. Dre. sandam05-06-2005, 09:23 AMcan't download the attachement right now but just a thought - what is the macro security level set to? You can also post your code in VBA tags [ v b a ] [ / v b a ] (just remove the spaces :)) fumei05-06-2005, 11:07 AM1. I am getting an error: Word word cannot open cannot open this template "C:\..\RPS Energy Report Template.dot" As this is NOT the name of the template file, I am confused. I have searched through the code, and searched through the document for this string "RPS Energy Report.dot" and can not find it...which seems logical as Word can not either. However, I can't find out WHY Word is looking for it... 2. I too am getting the error "can not find macro storage". I am assuming this is a reference to the RPS Energy Report template. OK. First of all, please describe EXACTLY the process of your use of this file. Are you opening the .dot file? Are you using File > New and cloning the .DOT file. Please tell me it is the latter. Please be specific about what you mean by "open as a template". If you open the file itself, you are NOT opening it as a template. You are opening it as a file. Further, are you saying you are opening it as a template (opening the .DOT), inputing the stuff, then saving it as a .DOC? You then double click the .DOC? If so, th

Solved error 5981 : could not open macro storage Posted on 2002-10-29 MS Office 1 Verified Solution 8 Comments 1,608 Views Last Modified: 2011-04-14 hello everyone.. pls help!!! i am getting the above error INTERMITTENTLY when i run the 2 macros that i have created.. i know there is a similar article on this posted long back but that doesn't seem to resolve my problem... i have also gone thru the below link but all the options suggested don't seem to apply in my case - http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/q162/0/53.asp let me explain why... the 1st macro converts a doc file to pdf (by creating a postscript file first using a print driver and then creating the pdf from the .ps file using acrodist.exe).. the 2nd macro simply converts the doc file to .prn using a print driver... both macros are executed via toolbar icons and are in the same template file (.dot) which is placed in C:\mydocs... also the workgroup template (Word -> Tools -> Options -> File Locations) is pointed to C:\mydocs so that the macros come up automatically when the doc is fetched from the repository (all docs are stored on a server)... also the output files (.pdf and .prn) go to a diff server. now the macros run fine but give the above error occasionally.. the options mentioned in the above link are not helping me since - - when the doc on which the macro error occurs is closed and again re-fetched from the repository, the macro runs fine... also the error does not occur always.. nor on any specific doc.. so normal.dot and vbe.dll should be supposedly fine (or else the error would happen for all) - n/w permissions are all correct for the same reason above - RAM is 255MB and HDD space is 20GB.. no other applications are open. pls let me know if i have missed anything or got something wrong.. pls advise. thanks in advance. aakash. 0 Question by:guptaak_2000 Facebook Twitter LinkedIn Google LVL 44 Best Solution bybruintje what also could be the case is that word leaves some intermediary files in the temp dir, and has trouble to get what it needs to proceed ... that's why it works a second time with no trouble and this Go to Solution 8 Comme
