After a https://forums.adobe.com/thread/1572483 lot of trial and error (different machines, different OS's, etc.) we've determined that it is a problem with the font inclusion, however, the "offending" font(s) - it's an OpenType Google Font Family - is one that I've used in dozens of other PDF's, in all sorts of combinations and variants, and have never had an issue before this document. This is coming at a critically inconvenient time, given the nature of the project and given that the aforementioned font (Roboto), is part of our brand identity. I have made a PDF with the type converted to outlines, but that balloons the file size up to around 11MB (from 278KB). I dont mind the conversion, but if there were a way to do this and reduce the size to something more manageable, I'd be thrilled (ideally <5 MB).The document is ALL (relatively simple) vector imagery and fonts, and I've not yet experimented with the resolution slider in the text outlining portion of the PDF dialogue (have no idea how relevant this woul
Solutions A PostScript error invalidfont offending command awidthshow can show up when you try to print a file containing TrueType fonts from InDesign 1.x or PageMaker 6.x to a Harlequin RIP. More information on this error can also https://www.prepressure.com/postscript/troubleshooting/errors/awidthshow be found in the Adobe support database. Upgrade to the Harlequin ScriptWorks RIP 5.3 in https://www.prepressure.com/postscript/troubleshooting/errors/show which this problem was fixed. You could also use only Type 1 PostScript fonts in the document since this problem is caused by TrueType fonts. Or, if you are printing from InDesign, you could convert all TrueType text to outlines. If you get an awidthshow error message while printing PDF files from Acrobat on a Harlequin RIP, offending command you should follow the following procedure: create a PostScript file by printing to disk. Choose to embed all fonts or embed all but the standard 13 fonts. Your TrueType font will be embedded in the file. It may be embedded as Type 42 and or outlines to make sure it gets built properly. As a side, click Level 2 and 3 ps, and binary data as well. Once you have the ps file, offending command xshow make sure you click on embed all fonts in the Acrobat Distiller job options and subset 99%. Jukka from Eco-Print Oy mailed me with a workaround: "I was printing a job from WIN Pagemaker 7.0 and I got an awidthshow error. I read your advice, but there was no time or money to update our RIP… so I tried to print my job to pdf. Then I printed it from Acrobat 5.0 because it was a greyscale job and this worked, no errors were reported by the RIP!" 9 August 2013 Comments Off on Offending command: awidthshow Comments are closed. your page that misbehaves. Solutions My best guess would be to COPY the entire content of the page and PASTE it onto a fresh page in a new document. If the PostScript error is ‘limitcheck' then a graphic on the page is too complex for the RIP. Increase flatness, split paths, simplify the graphic or lower the resolution of the RIP to solve the problem. If you try to distill files containing early versions of either Optima or Eras, Distiller 3.x may throw up the following message: %%[Warning: unable to embed font /Optima. Out of memory. Error: rangecheck; Offending Command: show - Flushing: rest of job (to end-of-file) will be ignored ]%% This error will not show up with Distiller 4.x and it can also be fixed by using a more recent version of the fonts. In fact, the error is apparently caused by the fact that early versions of Optima and Eras contained two set of data: one for high resolution devices and one for low resolution ones. Adobe did this to improve the quality of the very detailed curves in these fonts. Later on, they used other algorithm and such hybrid fonts disappeared off the market. 23 December 2014 1 Comment » One response to "Offending command: show" John Haffner says: April 16, 2013 at 10:25 pm Thank you!
