so I decided to post my own:I have a critically important document that I've created that is refusing to print correctly due to the errors in my thread title here. After a lot of trial and error (different machines, different OS's, etc.) we've determined that it is a problem with the font inclusion, however, the "offending" font(s) - it's an OpenType Google Font Family - is one that I've used error unregistered offending command xshow in dozens of other PDF's, in all sorts of combinations and variants, and have never had an issue before this document. This is coming at a critically inconvenient time, given the nature of the project and given that the aforementioned font (Roboto), is part of our brand identity. I have made a PDF with the type converted to outlines, but that balloons the file size up to around 11MB (from 278KB). I dont mind the conversion, but if there were a way to do this and reduce the size to something more manageable, I'd be thrilled (ideally <5 MB).The document is ALL (relatively simple) vector imagery and fonts, and I've not yet experimented with the resolution slider in the text outlining portion of the PDF dialogue (have no idea how relevant this would be in a vector document, given that it's not RASTERIZING the outlined type).Any help would be so tremendously appreciated.Thank you!!! ERROR: invalidfont OFFENDING COMMAND: xshow Want to Advertise Here? Solved Error when printing Office docs post-Outlook 2010 install. ERROR: invalidfont OFFENDING COMMAND: xshow Posted on 2011-01-05 Printers and Scanners https://forums.adobe.com/thread/1572483 Windows Server 2003 Windows XP 1 Verified Solution 5 Comments 9,475 Views Last Modified: 2012-06-21 After installing Outlook 2010, when we print multi-page Office docs, the print fails after several pages with the following error printed on the page: ERROR: invalidfont OFFENDING COMMAND: xshow STACK: [45 46 45 45 21....... - I can not see any obvious errors on the printer web interface or on the print server https://www.experts-exchange.com/questions/26718945/Error-when-printing-Office-docs-post-Outlook-2010-install-ERROR-invalidfont-OFFENDING-COMMAND-xshow.html - when the print job is sent, it appears to print fine on the client and on the server - the printers this affects are all Lanier (Ricoh) MFDs. Smaller Lanier printers are unaffected. - this does not happen to users with other versions of MS Outlook installed - when the driver is installed locally and I print to the printer via IP instead of via the server, it prints fine - have tried updating the print driver on the server - this only affects the PS driver, the RPCS driver works fine - this affects all types of Office docs Obviously, the error points towards an invalid font. And this is validated by the fact that if I change the font (for example Calibri, the Office default), to Times New Roman, the document prints fine. However, if I print the same document in .pdf form, it also prints fine. And the fact that I can print to it fine via IP, and it prints several other pages of the same font before failing also makes me think this error is misleading. - I've also tried to change one of the print settings to "Download As SoftFont" to no avail
your page that misbehaves. Solutions My best guess would be to COPY the entire content of the page and PASTE it onto https://www.prepressure.com/postscript/troubleshooting/errors/show a fresh page in a new document. If the PostScript error is ‘limitcheck' then a graphic on the page is too complex for the RIP. Increase flatness, split paths, simplify the graphic or lower the resolution of the RIP to solve the problem. If you try to distill files containing early versions of either Optima or Eras, Distiller 3.x may offending command throw up the following message: %%[Warning: unable to embed font /Optima. Out of memory. Error: rangecheck; Offending Command: show - Flushing: rest of job (to end-of-file) will be ignored ]%% This error will not show up with Distiller 4.x and it can also be fixed by using a more recent version of the fonts. In fact, the error is apparently error invalidfont offending caused by the fact that early versions of Optima and Eras contained two set of data: one for high resolution devices and one for low resolution ones. Adobe did this to improve the quality of the very detailed curves in these fonts. Later on, they used other algorithm and such hybrid fonts disappeared off the market. 23 December 2014 1 Comment » One response to "Offending command: show" John Haffner says: April 16, 2013 at 10:25 pm Thank you!
