Been trying for days. Win 7 Ultimate 64bit, Office 2010 32bit. Tried full download/install, removing all .Net and any other fix I've read about apart from the only one which seems to work which is a complete OS reinstall. Quite frankly, I can't be bothered (and shouldn't have to!!!!) format my machine to get an Office update to install.... 2010 SP1 Update Error 78F Posted on July 12, 2011 by gpd / 11 Comments In the research centre, my supervisors use MS word for all publication. This has benefit of tracking changes. LibreOffice was providing almost full support for MS Office formats. But there https://www.gauthampdas.com/blog/tech/ms-office-2010-sp1-update-error-78f were some glitches here and there. That was the reason I decided to get a copy of MS Office. Bought the latest version at student rate. All those things went smooth. Few days back there was an update available http://www.techtalkz.com/microsoft-office/373457-windows-update-office-2007-sp1-error-78f.html in the windows update interface. I tried to install those updates 3 or 4 times. Every time it ended abruptly with an error code 78F. There was no useful help when clicked the “Get more help” link close to office 2007 the error message. I did a search in the internet and got the solution. There can’t be any removable drives with no media. The workaround is Put a CD/DVD in the CD/DVD drive Load a CD/DVD disc image (eg. iso) in the virtual disks (Alcohol / Daemon Tools etc) Retry installing the update. It worked for me. The same error was reported for MS Office 2007 as well. That means this is not a new problem and it has office 2007 installation not been solved. Here is the link to the support page. Update (2011-07-20): Disabling the virtual drive may not solve the problem. So if you have a virtual drive, load a disc image (eg. iso) into it before trying to update. (Thanks Mauro/Derf for confirming it.) Its a miracle, I can't believe this worked. I spent a week online doing research before I stumbled on this post. I filled up my physical drives and it worked. I am adding some keywords so more folks can find this post. Thank you !!! Installation Failure: Windows failed to install the following update with error 0x80070643: Service Pack 1 for Microsoft Office 2010 (KB2510690) 32-bit Edition. Office 2010 SP1 update error Reply Derfllinger says: July 19, 2011 at 9:46 am Thank you for your answer, but I get always the same error. I disconnect all USB devices, but it doesn't work. I stopped the DEAMON tool too. Nothing to do. I don't understand what do yoiu mean when you say "The workaround is putting a CD/DVD in the cd/DVD drive and loading some CD/DVD image in the virtual disks and then installing the update." On my desktop it did install allright (HP m8170, Vista Home Premium, 2Gb RAM, 167 Gb free space). I did the update through Windows Update and after that one failed by installing it through the downloaded fullfile. Both had the same results. WU: Installation Failure: Windows failed to install the following update with error 0x80070652: 2007 Microsoft Office Suite Service Pack 1 (SP1). What more information does one need to pinpoint the problem?
