Source is located on my local machine and is SQL Server 2014. Target is located on a remote machine and it's SQL Server 2012. Here are the steps I've taken: On my local machine I go to SQL Server Management studio, I right click on MyDB and go to Tasks--> Generate Scripts. There I select "Script entire database and all database objects". I click Next and on the next page, http://stackoverflow.com/questions/36602930/directory-lookup-for-the-file-failed-with-the-operating-system-error-3-the-syst under Advanced, I select "Schema and data". That generates a SQL file (scripts.sql) that contains the definition for MyDB. Then I use the following osql command to re-create the database on Target: osql -S target -d master -E -i scripts.sql -o output.log After execution is finished I get this error in the log file "output.log": 1> 2> 1> 2> 3> 4> 5> 6> 7> 8> Msg 5133, Level 16, State 1, Server Target, Line 2 Directory lookup for the file "C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL12.MSSQLSERVER\MSSQL\DATA\MyDB.mdf" failed with the operating system error 3(The system cannot find the path specified.). He had been trying to create database and he had all the admin privileges. After getting remote desktop, I realize that he was everything correct but the filepath he was trying to create. Once he corrected the operating system error filepath everything was smooth from there. If you have the same error I suggest you carefully check your filepath. There must be some typo or error in filepath. If that is not the case and with admin rights you are still facing issue, post a comment here.Reference: Pinal Dave (http://blog.SQLAuthority.com) Tags: SQL Error MessagesRelated Articles SQL SERVER - Cannot resolve collation conflict for equal to operation June 11, 2007Pinal Dave SQL SERVER - DQS Error - Cannot connect to server - A .NET Framework error occurred during execution September 3, 2012Pinal Dave SQL SERVER - FIX: Msg 3102, Level 16, State 1 - RESTORE cannot process database ‘Name' because it is in use by this session June 6, 2015Pinal Dave 35 comments. Nothing to blog about.Reply amns October 5, 2010 9:52 pmI already get this error and the paths were right. I was trying to create database in a path like this: C:\programs\MyProgram\MyProgram.mdb and what solves my problem was runnig sql server not by local account but by using a computer account. Is this the macthing of the admin privileges?? Reagards.Reply GodsMessen

This has worked fine for a box that I did this morning but now I'm getting some errors on this second box. I am doing the following : Right click Database > Restore Database... To database : "myDb" From Device : C:\myDbBkp.bak Check the backup set, and click OK Normally it would give a popup saying "Import sucessful", but now I get the following : Restore failed for server "myServer". (Microsoft.SqlServer.Smo) Additional Information : System.Data.SqlClient.SqlError : Directory lookup for the file "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Sql Server\MSSQL.1\MSSQL\DATA\myDbBkp.mdf" failed with the operating system error 3(error not found) (Microsoft.SqlServer.Smo) My next questions are : Why is it trying to load an MDF file from a directory I haven't specified Error not found, is that as helpful as it sounds? Any ideas? I did this successfully earlier on an identical environment with the same versions etc. Many thanks sql-server-2005 backup-restoration share|improve this question asked Oct 28 '09 at 14:59 user155695 2502413 add a comment| 2 Answers 2 active oldest votes up vote 3 down vote accepted It’s not trying to load an MDF from a directory you haven’t specified, it’s trying to PUT it there (because it was there in the first place). Instead of doing step #4, check it and don’t click “OK", but then go to OPTIONS and make sure that both the Data path and the log path (And .MD
