Sometimes backup https://connect.microsoft.com/SQLServer/feedback/details/571950/backup-database-full-the-operating-system-returned-error-1450 dont work, stay with status suspended and waiting ASYNC_IO_COMPLETION and never finish, and print entries on errolog: The operating system returned error 1450(Insufficient system resources exist to complete the requested service.) to SQL Server during a write at offset 0x00000000003200 in file with handle 0x0000101C. This is usually a temporary condition and the SQL Server will keep retrying the operation. If the condition persists then immediate action must be taken to correct it. Delay between messages on errorlog is 2 - 10 minutes, and backup from database 4 GB never finish, disktime at server serverxz is near 0. This 1450 insufficient system 4GB space is equally divided into two parts by default. The application gets 2GB and all applications share the same 2GB kernel space. There are two fundamental kernel resources in the kernel memory - Paged Pool Memory and Non Paged Pool Memory. They serves as memory resources that the operating system and device drivers use to store their data structures. Since the kernel address space is 32bit, there is an inherent cap for the upper bound for paged pool and non paged pool memory. Depending on the version of windows, the limits are slightly different. The following table summarizes the non paged pool limits across different version of Windows: 32-bit 64-bit XP, Server 2003 up to 1.2GB RAM: 32-256 MB 1.2 GB RAM or more: 256MB min (~400K/MB of RAM, 128GB) Vista, Server 2008, Windows 7, Server 2008 R2 min (~75% of RAM, 2GB) min (~75% of RAM, 128GB) The following table summarizes the paged pool limits across operating systems: 32-bit 64-bit XP, Server 2003 XP: up to 491MB Server 2003: up to 650MB min (4 * nonpaged pool limit, 128GB) Vista, Server 2008, Windows 7, Server 2008 R2 min (sy
error 1450 Discussion in 'General DBA Questions' started by noobie, Jul 12, 2004. noobie New Member I#%92m trying to restore a very large SQL database (71 GB) to a different SQL server. I had done this several times to different servers but recently the restore has been failing. The server I am attempting to restore the database to is running Microsoft Server 2003 and Microsoft SQL Server 2000. The backup of the database is kept on a server running Microsoft Server 2003. I get the following error when trying to restore the database: BackupMedium::ReportIoError: read failure on backup device '\1TechSvrBackupEDMSEDMS.BAK'. Operating system error 1450(Insufficient system resources exist to complete the requested service.). Internal I/O request 0x1BB09758: Op: Read, pBuffer: 0x06AD0000, Size: 65536, Position: 72276186624, RetryCount: 10, UMS: Internal: 0x0, InternalHigh: 0x0, Offset: 0xD3FF1600, OffsetHigh: 0x10, m_buf: 0x06AD0000, m_len: 65536, m_actualBytes: 0, m_errcode: 1450, BackupFile: \1TechSvrBackupEDMSEDMS.BAK I have tried the restore several times after the backup (the full backup is run once a week) thinking that the first time I tried the restore that failed might actually be a bad file. But the restore has failed several weeks in a row (different backup files). Our server support folks monitored both servers when I attempted to do the restore and saw no problems with either server. Any ideas? noobie, Jul 12, 2004 #2 Luis Martin Moderator Check, http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;826971 HTH Luis Martin Moderator SQL-Server-Performance.com All postings are provided “AS IS†with no warranties for accuracy. Luis Martin, Jul 12, 2004 #2 noobie New Member Thanks for the info but the fix for the problem doesn't apply. The server where the backup is kept and the MS SQL 2000 Server that I am trying to restore the database to are running Windows Server 2003 OS. In any case the hotfix that the link said was the problem, has not been applied to either server. I continue to look for a solution. noobie, Jul 12, 2004 #2 Luis Martin Moderator I found the followin
