Solved Linux OS "error loading operating system" in ESXi after Acronis TIB VMware conversion Posted on 2009-11-24 Linux VMware MS Server OS 1 Verified Solution 14 Comments 6,294 Views Last Modified: 2013-12-15 Hi Experts, I'm not a Linux guy so I need all the help I can get. Scenario: Old workstation running (unknown) version of Linux with a utility which collects and reports on Wireless Access Point data needs to be imported into a Vmware ESXi server. I connected the 80GB IDE hard drive to my system and used Acronis to create a TIB image of it. Then used VMWare Convert to import the new Virtual Machine into VMware ESXi using a name "WiFi". In vSphere, when WiFi is powered on, I'm getting a message "error loading operating system" immediately after the VMware BIOS screen disappears. Nothing even attempts to load. Need instructions on what to do next to get this Linux to fire up in ESXi. I downloaded Fedora 8 rescue CD ISO, Grub rescue CD ISO and a x86 System Rescue CD ISO. Tried a bunch of things after googling for a day, none of which worked. Reverted back to the original Vmware image (i.e. to its original post-Vmware-converter import state) and need Linux gurus out there to walk me through figuring out how to get the partitions recognized so that whatever the OS is, it can start properly in VMWare ESXi. Which of the ISO's should I start the system with, and what commands should I run? 0 Question by:taki1gostek Facebook Twitter LinkedIn Google LVL 6 Best Solution byJoshua1909 The live conversion is really your best option.
