AM Points: 169, Visits: 25 Hello,This is my first time to restore a backup db from our production db server and to be restored in development server. An error occur when I restore it using the SQL Server management studio. The error is like this: "System.Data.SqlClient.SqlError: Directory lookup for the file "D:\DATA_FILES\OSM_eTech.mdf" failed with the operating system error directory lookup for the file .mdf failed with the operating system error 3 21(The device is not ready.). If you're doing the restore through Sql Managment Studio then you can change the path each file will be restored to by going to the "Options" page and changing the "Restore As" value. Get into the services section of manage my computer and see what the current running user is on the SQL server and then check your disk permissions for that user. –u07ch Dec 31 '12 at 19:23 I have the same user: michael-PC like in SQL Server 2008 R2 (where I haven't permission problems). –michael Dec 31 '12 at 19:28 look at the .mdf and .ldf file permission on the folder. michael-PC might not have full control permission (on folder or files) –Hiten004 Dec 31 '12 at 19:35 1 The account the sql server service is running as needs permission for the folder and files. That's not (or well shouldn't be) you. Check teh account information on the service.
