Source is located on my local machine and is SQL Server 2014. http://stackoverflow.com/questions/36602930/directory-lookup-for-the-file-failed-with-the-operating-system-error-3-the-syst Target is located on a remote machine and it's SQL Server 2012. Here are the steps I've taken: On my local machine I go to SQL Server Management studio, I right click on MyDB and go to Tasks--> Generate Scripts. There I select "Script entire database and all database objects". I click Next and on the next page, under Advanced, I select "Schema and data". That generates a SQL file (scripts.sql) that contains the definition for MyDB. Then I use the following osql command to re-create the database on Target: osql -S target -d master -E -i scripts.sql -o output.log After execution is finished I get this error in the log file "output.log": 1> 2> 1> 2> 3> 4> 5> 6> 7> 8> Msg 5133, Level 16, State 1, Server Target, Line 2 Directory lookup for the file "C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL12.MSSQLSERVER\MSSQL\DATA\MyDB.mdf" failed with the operating system error 3(The system cannot find the path specified.). Reason: 15105) up vote -1 down vote favorite I tried the following code to try and bulk load into a table in my SQL operating system error Server. BULK INSERT dbo.CentralRepository_Associate_Details FROM '/1CAAP/1413/data/csvtest1.csv' WITH (FIELDTERMINATOR = ';') and got the following error : Cannot bulk load because the file "/1CAAP/1413/data/csvtest1.csv" could not be opened. Operating system error code 3(failed to retrieve text for this error. Reason: 15105). I guess error code 3 is a permission error. Just a request: I'm not very good as far as stuff like this is concerned. So explanation in layman terms would be really helpful. sql-server share|improve this question asked Jun 5 '14 at 7:29 user3455309 1111 migrated from stackoverflow.com Jun 5 '14 at 9:56 This question came from our site for professional and enthusiast programmers. First of all the path should be as Ilya explained in windows path format i.e C:\Files\FileName.CSV and you are also missing the ROWTERMINATOR clause of your bulk insert. –M.Ali Jun 5 '14 at 8:51 Hi Thanks, I need to run the file from the server. So is there anyway I can do it using bulk insert? or is there another alternative to do the same. –user3455309 Jun 5 '14 at 9:25 Is this file located on your netw

I must be able to support SQL 2005/2008 and 2012. The instance of the database is created during the install and it's data root is a subdirectory of the install directory which can be anywhere the user chooses. To accomplish this I BACKUP the database from a SQL 2005 server and during the install attach to the SQL instance and execute the following SQL statements: CREATE DATABASE databasename RESTORE DATABASEdatabasename FROM DISK = 'X:\InstallDir\databasename.Bak' with replace During the restore in 2005 the sqlhas no problems even if the databasefiles are in a different directory. During the restore in 2008 the sql database is converted from 2005to 2008 and has no problems even if the database is in a different directory. BUT in SQL 2012 I get the following error: (Even when the root is identical to the .BAK file root) eb1>Directory lookup for the file "X:\InstallDir\Database\MSSQL.2\MSSQL\DATA\databasename.mdf" failed with the operating system error 3(The system cannot find the path specified.).
