Operating System Error 5 Access Is Denied Sql Server 2014
Two stand alone SQL Servers. They have full network visibility to each other. They are NOT in a domain. There is NO domain available. (I am using SQL Server 2014, but this exact issue applies at least back to SQL 2005.) Everything "works" ... the only piece missing is that the sql job that tries to copy the log backup fails with this error: Error: Cannot open backup device '\\sql2\sqllogs\NORTHWND_20150209053800.trn'. Operating system error 5(Access is denied.). SQL Agent is running as the "NT Service\SQLSERVERAGENT" account. On SQL2, I have given this user full rights to \sql2\sqllogs\ share and folder. The SQLSERVERAGENT account on both systems has the same password, and the agent has been restarted after setting that password. I have seen some folks solve this by making SQLSERVERAGENT a member of the administrators group on the OS, but that does not sound like a safe path. What is the correct way to solve this? sql-server share|improve this question asked Feb 9 '15 at 5:47 samsmith 1,108826 In logshipping copy job is created on Secondary server. was to setup the sql server log shipping in sql server 2008 while configuring the log shipping we came across operating system sql server agent service account folder permissions error 5 as shown below. Sql server log shipping Error 3041 Error: 3041, Severity: 16, State: 1. Message BackupDiskFile::CreateMedia: Backup device ‘C:\Backup\Db.bak' failed to create. Operating system error 5(Access is denied.) Now as error suggests access http://dba.stackexchange.com/questions/91459/sql-server-log-shipping-how-to-give-sql-agent-the-needed-rights-to-remote-share denied means its related to permission on shared folders either on primary or secondary server. So we added administrator account in access list of shared folder then also it failed again. We checked sql server services were running on different account (domain\service_account ) this is nothing but the service account which we use to configure sql services while setup of sql server. we decided to give permission to sql server service account on http://www.sqlserver-query.com/sql-server-log-shipping-operating-system-error-5-access-is-denied-error-3041/ shared folder, we followed below steps to add service account in the access list of the folder. 1. Open the service.msc, go to sql server service (MSSQLSERVER or Sql instance name) 2. Double click on sql server service 3. Check the LogOn tab 4. Copy the service account name (domain\service_acount) 5. Now go to secondary server and right click on share folder for sharing. 6. Select the second option from the drop down list (window server 2008) and click on add 7. It will give you small dialog box, here in location select entire directory and enter the service account name in below box, now click on check name option and ok. 8. Give full permission to this service account. After adding service account and assigning full permission, we re-ran the setup and it completed successfully. Try at your end, hope it will help you. What user is the program running as? Does the bak file exist? Can you access it manually? –Pekka 웃 Oct 18 '10 at 14:41 1 Should we assume this is for SQL Server from the file path, since you didn't put the product in the tags or title? –Powerlord Oct 18 '10 at 14:42 I was able to run this query before I reformatted my laptop if it does any help. This is SQL Server 2008 and I am running as an administrator. The bak file does not exist since I am on the process of creating it with this query. –Smiley Oct 18 '10 at 14:45 @Smiley Face: You have to read the SQL file through your local, not network. So it means you will have to move the SQL file from the network to your local drive first, and restore it. –mrjimoy_05 Apr 8 '13 at 8:13 add a comment| 13 Answers 13 active oldest votes up vote 136 down vote accepted Yeah I just scored this one.
