The application's database is backed up using CommVault. On Friday I successfully installed a named instance of SQL Server 2005 on the server. That evening the scheduled CommVault backup on the SQL Server 2000 database failed with the following errors in event viewer: (any ideas as to why the backup is failing. It seems to have something to do with me installing the named instance of 2005) 18210 : BackupVirtualDeviceSet::Initialize: Open failure on backup device '5716c615-e89a-4482-ac50-6c3e658fc253'. This would take backup using VDI and would help you in contacting CommVault support. Has anyone come across this before and how can it be fixed? The database backed up successfully a few times after a reboot but then it starts failing again. Could you confirm what version and service pack of Simpana, also does a native backup run and complete successfully? Unfortunately, it is always the backups that discover when there are things wrong in environments! Thanks for your reply!
