the person in charge. I'm working on an ASP function for work and I alway hit this "Permission denied" error. I made some search and I found that the account need permission to run the script. It's maybe just me, but I don't understand that ASP check the user before run a script, I mean, it's a public website, obviously they will not have acces if I don't. Can I change the file so anyone can run it ? EDIT : My script is localstart asp brute force exposure trying to edit a file on the server dim fs,f set fs=Server.CreateObject("Scripting.FileSystemObject") set f=fs.OpenTextFile(Server.MapPath("test.txt"),8,true) f.WriteLine("This text will be added to the end of file") f.Close set f=Nothing set fs=Nothing Thanks asp-classic iis-6 share|improve this question edited Dec 12 '12 at 15:41 asked Dec 12 '12 at 15:30 Blowingfish 9318 Need more information. What is the script trying to do? Access local files or directories? Create files? As is, this is unanswerable. –CM Kanode Dec 12 '12 at 15:34 I just add the script –Blowingfish Dec 12 '12 at 15:42 1 The account that IIS uses (probably iusr) needs to have read/write permissions on the target folder. I would recommend using a temp folder (anything other than the website's root folder) –CM Kanode Dec 12 '12 at 15:59 Thank you for the answer, but I got the same error if I target a folder. Actually, I don't know if it's possible to skip the account check and just run the script, I think it's more a problem because I don't understand ASP then an error in my code. –Blowingfish Dec 12 '12 at 16:05 By default, the account will have no permissions, so of course, you wouldn't be able to target a folder either. That's simply basic security. You need to have whoever administers that machine give permissions on an appropriate location. –CM Kanode Dec 12 '12 at 16:23 | show 5 more comments 1 Answer 1 active oldest votes up

I have a customer who has moved their site from an ancient system to IIS7 on Windows 2008 Server. Info about the error is below: Error: E:\wwwroot\sp\xxx\online_data.xls Microsoft VBScript runtime error '800a0046' Permission denied /xxx/oat/exceldata.asp, line 52 Code: 49 response.write(server.mappath("online_data.xls")) 50 51 set fso = createobject("scripting.filesystemobject") 52 Set act http://stackoverflow.com/questions/4505634/iis7-permission-denied-asp-file-write = fso.CreateTextFile(server.mappath("online_data.xls"), true) The only suggestion so far is to: grant the application pool (DefaultAppPool / Classic AppPool)’s impersonated identity read and write permission to the physical folder which the asp page reside Will look at this when I get access, but other suggestions would be appreciated. iis-7 asp-classic share|improve this question edited Dec 22 '10 at 2:18 John Saunders 138k20175319 asked Dec 22 '10 at 2:15 Rine 31112 1 I think that suggestion will work, another option is checking if the default app pool is running as Network Service and giving Network Service access to write to that folder –kd7 Dec 22 '10 at 2:19 Thanks for the replies guys. Still no action on site, but will follow up when I return. –CMH Jan 6 '11 at 23:00 add a comment| 5 Answers 5 active oldest votes up vote 12 down vote The provided answer is correct, but I needed a little more detail on how to accomplish it. To make it really easy, follow the steps below. I was setting up an asp page counter on a sandbox system in our intranet. Open Computer Management. Drill down to the IIS server Management

after I upgraded my computer to Windows XP Pro SP2. Also, it still works fine when I upload the script to my web host. However, locally on my computer using IIS, I get the error: Error Type: Microsoft VBScript runtime (0x800A0046) Permission denied This occurs on the line: Set FileTS = FileFSO.OpenTextFile(Server.MapPath(".") & "" & FileName,2,TRUE) I've searched online for answers and most articles say I have to set read and write access to the containing folder. I have done so for the containing folder and for the entire "wwwroot" folder, but the problem still occurs. I have also allowed anonymous access for my computer IUSR_XXXXX. This doesn't work either.
