A dirty disc, 2. A scratched disc 3. A poor quality disc (cheap media if it happens during the "Burn" section of your work) 4. A bad disc from the Mfgr. It can also be from a bad optical component in your drive. At this time I don't believe it's your drive at all. If you recently purchased this disc new from a store, I would return it as defective if just cleaning and the proper use of DVD Decrypter doesn't get the job done. I'd like you to check your DVD Decrypter's settings. First, it should be version 3.5.1.0. Go to "Tools", "Settings", set everything to "Default". Then in the "General" tab change, "Removal Method" from "Normal" to "Aggressive", in "File Mode", "tick" Remove PUO's." For ripping in the "ISO Read Mode", "tick" "Remove PUO's" there also. in the "CSS" tab, under "CSS Cracking Method", choose "Brute Force ~> I/O Key Exchange" and "On Failure" choose "Yes". . IMPORTANT: In the "I / O" tab, in the bottom right, "tick" the box which says, "Ignore read errors". This is an excellent setting for dealing with scratched discs which may cause ripping problems. Some people like ripping with DVD Decrypter using the "File" "Mode" BUT, especially for episodel-type DVD's, I feel that nothing can beat ripping the DVD using the "ISO", "Read", "Mode". Theres not much that can be done. Quote: P.S I do have NERO 6 so perhaps can try with that, but don't know where to start, THOUGHT that Shrink was the best program to do that. If your just doing a straight copy with no copy protection from one DVD to another, try Nero. Shrink is only necessary for compressing DVD9 to DVD5. __________________ AMD 64 4400+ X2 'Toledo' @ 2.6Ghz DFI LANPARTY UT nF4 SLI-DR Expert 2x 1024Mb DDR OCZ PC4000 Gold 2x Sparkle 7800GTX 256Mb DDR3 in SLI (513/1280) 2x Arctic NV Silencer 5 rev 3 120G Seagate SATA 250G Seagate SATA Benq DW1640 Swiftech Extreme Liquid Cooling Kit 24" Dell LCD Microsoft Vista Ultimate RTM v6 build 6000 04-02-2005 #3 JSD New on Forum Join Date: Jan 2005 Posts: 6 Re: DVD SHRINK PROBLEM: "Data error (cyclic redundancy check)" Try copying DVD to HDD with AnyDVD. Find out what file it isn't copying and copy files before and after that file into a folder and see if you can re-author or even do a full backup of that folder with DVD Shrink. I had one file that wouldn't copy on a backup I was doing and this worked for me. Hope this helps. Jason 04-02-2005 #4 G)-(osters CD Freaks Die Hard Join Date: Dec 2004

Maybe the lens on your reader is dirty, have you tried running a cleaning disc in the dvd burner? Sep 23, 2009 #2 SNGX1275 TS Forces Special Posts: 10,689 +395 That will happen on some disks even if they are perfect, I always attributed it to a form of copy protection dvdshrink can't deal with. Try and rip it with dvddecrypter first, to a folder, then point dvdshrink to the folder. This of course assumes you own the disk.. Sep 24, 2009 #3 captaincranky TechSpot Addict Posts: 11,431 +1,754 Copy protection strategy is updated almost monthly. As a result, neither DVD Shrink or DVD Decrypter are able to cope with many current discs. While as SNGX1275 suggests, DVD Decrypter is more potent than DVD Shink, it isn't the answer to issues with many recent discs, and some "failed to read" errors will also be observed when using it. However, DVD Decrypter also possesses the ability to rip a DVD in ISO mode, which comes in handy from time to time. Sep 24, 2009 #4 (You must log in or sign up to reply here.) Click here to optimize your system performance and have it ready for DVD Shrink! Decryption problems/new copy protections Since development of DVD Shrink has been stopped in 2005 it cannot circumvent current copy protections schemes which may manifest in these errors/error messages: Movie playback starts in between or at the end and/or chapters do not playback in order Invalid File Structure Invalid Navigation Structure Out of memory Programming error - Exception occurred Parameter Incorrect Data Redundancy Check Error (CRC Error) The request could not be performed because of an I/O device error To remove such protections do a complete backup of such media to your HDD with (use Google): DVDFab HD Decrypter (free trial) AnyDVD (free trial) and then use Shrink to encode it as usual. Problems with Nero First of all DVD Shrink is a transcoder to shrink movie DVDs, using the Nero engine for automatic burning is just a bonus. Having said that, DVD Shrink works under Vista but Nero only from version 7.x and higher. If you insist on using bloatware but can't get it to work, uninstall both Shrink and Nero and reinstall (not just copy over exes!) Nero before DVD Shrink. After that make sure that Edit > Preferences > File I/O > Enable burning with Nero is checked. If that still doesn't work as well as nothing on this list use free Imgburn which is an advancement of the DVD Decrypter burning engine and uses the same command set. Therefore if want to keep automatic burning and have DVD Decrypter installed on your machine you can copy over 'ImgBurn.exe' and rename it to 'DVDDecrypter.exe' so Shrink uses it with 'ISO Image File and burn with DVD Decrypter' selected as your backup target. Alternatively use the hacked DVD Shrink with ImgBurn. Of course you can also simply output to ISOs and manually add them to ImgBurn's queue. In case your HDD is still formatted with FAT32 instead of NTFS, DVD Shrink will bypass the 4 GB filesize limit automatically by outputting to multipart ISO (.i00, .i01, .i02, .mds) which mds can be burned with ImgBurn. Batch encoding/autoplay/command line Aparently DVD Shrink does not support command line parameters except for opening a DVD so if you wanna use it in your media center without a keyboard use autoplay, cmdDVDShrink or DVD Rip. In case you wanna encode several DVDs in a row unattended use MultiShrink. Problems running DVD Shrink on Vista/Win 7 DVD
