Mr.HopelessTopic StarterRookie IE Script Error - opens as a pop-up for many programs « on: February 15, 2009, 04:35:41 PM » Ever since installing an updated Norton Internet Security (2008) last fall, I've had this annoying pop-up come up for many programs. It says it is an Internet Explorer Script Error. It says "An error has occurred in the script script error windows on this page." It does not list any Line, Char, Error, Code, or URL information. "Do you want to continue running scripts on this page?" Clicking either the Yes or No box does not remove the box, only clicking the red X on the top right does. And when this happens, there are a few dozen boxes that pop up at the same time so I need to close all of the boxes. This seems to happen for many programs when a message box is supposed to come up. For example, if I have received now mail on Microsoft Outlook, I am notified by getting dozens of these pop-ups instead of just a single message notifying me that I have new mail. When I go to the Norton Help & Support on the Norton Internet Security program, I also get these pop-ups. I can't even put my cursor over the registration submittal box for H&R Block Tax Cut without getting these boxes, and when I clear them on this program, a fresh batch pops up right away, so I can't even get passed the regi
(troubleshooting) Problem(Abstract) When opening the help file or clicking on any hyperlink, error dialogs pop up. Internet Explorer Script error Error: Object Expected Code: 0 URL: mk:@MSITStore:c:\program%20files\spss%20student\help\main\spsswin.chm::/overvw_auto_0.htm Resolutions 52930 and 57395 don't apply, because there is no "minimal install" in version 14. Other resolutions include running Windows Update, and Internet Explorer security settings. The system is currently up to date, and security settings are at a complete minimum. In order to rule out security issues with Internet Explorer, I have turned off my firewall, disabled the pop-up blocker, disabled Norton Script Blocking and Antivirus, tried accessing the files in Safe Mode, deleted all temporary and offline content and disabled script debugging in Internet Explorer. Resolving the problem This error is not entirely related to SPSS; it happens when the user tries to access any .chm files. Clearing the cache in Internet Explorer seems to fix the problem. 1. Open Internet Options --> Click the Delete Files button under the Temporary Internet Files section of the General tab, click "OK". 2. Click the Settings button, then click the View Files button. 3. Hold down the Ctrl key and press a. Then hit your delete key. This will clear out all of your temporary Internet files. 4. Under the History section, click on the Clear History button, but ONLY if you want to clear out your address bar. If clearing the cache proves ineffectual, try re-registering the HTML help control in Windows: 1) Go to Start > Run 2) At the Run dialog, type the following: regsvr32 C:\Windows\system32\hhctrl.ocx Finally, if the problem is still unresolved, try the following: 1) Open Edit->Options and choose the Scripts tab 2) Un-check the Enable Autoscripting option. 3) Re-launch the application. There might be some useful information in the Event Viewer (Con
