How can I debug this? It's always a dangling comma. –Stephen Sep 29 '10 at 16:04 Add line 31 into your answer from the page itself. Doesn't sound as though its coming from an external file as IE normally tells you it's a problem with an external file. –GenericTypeTea Sep 29 '10 at 16:05 add a comment| 6 Answers 6 active oldest votes up vote 1 down vote accepted Try debugging it with IE8's Developer Tools (press F12). You should be able to step through the JS code (from all your scripts) to find out what is wrong with line 31 / char 5. share|improve this answer answered Sep 29 '10 at 16:06 Mike Atlas 6,38132752 add a comment| up vote 2 down vote You can download IETester which lets you use various versions of IE (6-8) and has built-in developer tools. They're not spectacular, but they're better than the nothing that old versions of IE provide. share|improve this answer edited Sep 30 '10 at 0:57 answered Sep 29 '10 at 16:09 Adam J.R. page is incorrect. Unfortunately, there are several possible causes. by Leo A. Notenboom, © 2011 On some websites, occasionally including my online bank sites, the IRS, etc. etc., I sometimes get the message "Error http://ask-leo.com/how_do_i_fix_error_on_page_when_visiting_a_website_and_what_does_error_on_page_mean.html on page," and the links don't work. What causes this message to appear and is http://ccm.net/forum/affich-118786-enable-javascript-in-internet-explorer-8 there anything I can do to avoid it? I assume that the problem is with the site and not my computer, which makes me think I can't do much, but I thought I'd ask. It's very inconvenient. I use Windows 7 and Internet Explorer 8. • Taken quite literally, "Error on page" means exactly that: there's an error of some sort on script error the web page that is being displayed in your browser. There are three common reasons why this message can appear. With two, you can try to do something about, but with the other, you can't. • Reason One: It's The Website's Fault Web pages are written in what boils down to one or more programming languages.† HTML - HyperText Markup Language - is the fundamental language used to code web pages. It defines things like paragraphs, bold, italics an error has and other characteristics of page layout. Javascript, while separate and distinct from HTML, is another programming language that is often used within web pages to add interactive functionality. If you've used Google Docs, for example, you've seen a word processor or a spreadsheet program implemented primarily in Javascript. Java, which is unrelated to Javascript, is yet another programming language that can be used on web pages to create even richer applications that are available and run simply by visiting a web page. Like any programming language, it's possible for the humans writing the programs or pages to make mistakes. That's one source of "Error on page". Typically, the problem is in Javascript and the "Error on page" may indicate that there's a quite literally an error that's been left in by the web page designer or author. If that's the case, there's nothing that you can do, other than let the website owner know. Reason Two: Incomplete Downloads This is probably the more common reason for "Error on page". When you view a web page, say this one on Ask Leo!, your browser downloads the file that "is" the web page (an .html file, in this page's case). Based on what that page contains, your browser may then also download additional files, such as image files (like my smiling face, up at the top, for example), Javascript files (like the one

Go to Internet Options - Security Tab - Internet - click on the "Custom" button then scroll down to the Miscellaneous section. There are several entries that control the JavaScript engine in IE8. One of them is named "Allow script-initiated windows without size or position constraints". This item is disabled in all zones in IE8. That means that any link that calls a JavaScript function that opens a new window will not work if the size or location of the new window is not specified in the link. Change this item to "Enable" and those links will work again. You must do this for all zones. Bottom line - the Jav
