Every time i would run the install program http://stackoverflow.com/questions/5059962/problem-installing-vs-2008-due-to-microsoft-document-explorer-missing and then run VS when attempting to use the help program it would lock up and error that MS Document Explorer was missing. visual-studio-2008 share|improve this question asked Feb 20 '11 at 21:00 Lee Sorensen 111 add a comment| 3 Answers 3 active oldest votes up vote 0 down vote Have you tried repairing the installation of VS 2008? Go to "Add/Remove Programs" (XP) or "Programs and Features" (Vista+), find Visual Studio, click "Change", then follow the wizard and select "Repair Visual Studio". share|improve this answer answered Feb 20 '11 at 21:02 vcsjones 78.3k15174211 add a comment| up vote 0 down vote Following is a link to someone with the Document Explorer Bug who fixed it by uninstalling the partially installed Web Designer Tools. Before you try this i would recommend trying to reinstall VS2008 with minimal features selected (and probably avoiding Web Designer Tools and other features that require Document Explorer). http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en/vs2008prereleaseinstallandsetup/thread/0826a01e-0c22-49bc-aacc-d25dba2d1084 share|improve this answer answered Feb 20 '11 at 21:09

on Sun, 23 Dec 2012 01:15:58 I saw a post thread aboutAttn Microsoft - Script errors appear in SSMS Help system in SQL Server 2008 SP3and would like to report similar script errors that I see while trying to add community content via the Help Viewer (Document Explorer). Steps: Open SSMS > type in a query > bring cursor to a TSQL key word (e.g. EXCEPT) > press F1 The Document Explorer opens up and immediately the error messages start popping up. The page content is loaded after clicking Yes on the 7th error message. When I click on Add Content, this error message sequence is repeated but there is still no option to edit the community Content. Workaround: Copy the URL from the top-right of the Document Explorer and paste to open it in your browser. Edit the Community content in the browser.
