box. Often, clients' websites have buggy javascript that also stops our code (the browser stops execution when errors are encountered). Is there any way to make our code still execute even though there are errors in the console about things like undefined methods or variables? Thanks for your help. javascript jquery share|improve this question asked May 31 '12 at 0:23 xd44 3462514 1 Theoretically, not unless you run your script before anything else on the page (which suppress javascript errors in ie is usually not possible, or even desirable). –Chris Tonkinson May 31 '12 at 0:25 3 Kinda like when the airplane engine fails isn't there a way to just make it keep going –CD Smith May 31 '12 at 0:25 3 I don't think you should babysit customers' sites. If their sites are buggy, it's their own problem. It'd also motivate them to actually fixing the code instead of adding workaround after workaround. –Fabrício Matté May 31 '12 at 0:27 @AlfalfaStrange close, but this is less akin to a general failure, and more likened to an actual explosion. :-) +1 –Chris Tonkinson May 31 '12 at 0:27 1 @D3mon-1stVFW: Are you serious about that? An applet? We have 2012, not 2000. But yes, don't waste time on making your stuff work on broken sites. If they want it they should fix their stuff. –ThiefMaster♦ May 31 '12 at 0:51 | show 4 more comments 4 Answers 4 active oldest votes up vote 11 down vote accepted As others have said, continuing after an error might not be the best thing to do but you can try this: function ignoreerror() { return true } window.onerror=ignoreerror(); More details here The onerror event fires whenever an JavaScript error occurs (depending on your browser configuration, you may see an error dialog pop up). scripting error messages in Internet Explorer. These messages say things like "Errors on try catch javascript this webpage might cause it to work incorrectly." The first thing to try is turning off these messages in Internet Explorer: adwcleaner Open Internet Explorer Open the Tools menu (Alt and T) Select the Internet Options item (O key) The Internet Options dialog has many tabs. You need the Advanced tab. Press Control and Tab until http://stackoverflow.com/questions/10825992/prevent-javascript-from-stopping-when-error-is-encountered you get to the Advanced Tab (that's six presses for Internet Explorer 8) You should now be in a list, starting with Accessibility as the first item in Internet Explorer 8. This has the scripting options you want to change. Cursor down to "Disable script debugging (Internet Explorer)" and press Space until it is on. Cursor down to "Disable script debugging (Other)" and press Space until it is on. https://www.webbie.org.uk/scriptingErrors.htm Cursor down to "Display a notification about every script error" and press Space until it is off. Press the Return key to close the Internet Options dialog. You should now have turned off the scripting errors. Not worked? Here are some other things you can try: Update Internet Explorer. You should be on the latest Internet Explorer, it's safer and better. You can get it from Windows Update. Start Internet Explorer, Alt and T for the Tools menu, then cursor down to Windows Update. Change your antivirus program. These cause no end of trouble. Set your Internet Explorer Security settings to Default. You do this again in the Internet Explorer Tools menu, Internet Options, Security tab, and click Default Level. Delete your Internet Explorer temporary files and cookies and history. Internet Options, General tab. This will mean you'll have to re-enter your username and password in places where you've saved it, so make sure you know them all before you try this. Still no good? There are two a Microsoft Support Knowledgebase Articles, How to troubleshoot script errors in Internet Explorer on Windows-based computers from which I've taken some of the above, and Fix runtime errors in Internet Explorer, which have more suggestions and approaches.

I've already found several solutions that aren't working. Not sure what I'm doing wrong. I don't want to disable all javascript, only Javascript alert boxes. The ones that pop up and force you script error message to click OK or X to close them. I've found user scripts that claim to do this (example: http://userscripts.org/scripts/show/58252 ). I've put chrome on the dev channel, start chrome with the --enable-user-scripts switch, the script shows up as installed. But I still get the alert boxes. An example alert box that isn't getting disabled is at http://wordswithfriends.net/ - put in any garbage word into the word validator on the right sidebar. You get a popup telling you it's not a word. google-chrome javascript userscripts alert share|improve this question edited Jul 13 '14 at 18:37 Judith 675214 asked Jul 31 '12 at 15:12 CreeDorofl 1,32841732 add a comment| 2 Answers 2 active oldest votes up vote 8 down vote accepted The only way to disable the alert boxes is to install either an extension or a userscript. The userscript you linked is for Firefox Greasemonkey and will not work on Chrome. Additionally, the misbehaving page you cite is sneaky and runs that "word validator" in an iframe with code that fires the alert() immediately upon iframe reload. But here's a userscript that defeats it: // ==UserScript== // @name Wordswithfriends, Block javascript alerts // @mat

It displays a dialog box with that warning everytime I load the site. I tried reloading Chrome a few times so it'd ask me if I wanted to ignored those warnings but it didn't work. What can I do to ignore this specific warning? Alternatively, what can I do to ignore any scripted dialog box? google-chrome javascript share|improve this question edited Jun 20 '14 at 14:24 Oliver Salzburg♦ 56.4k36185245 asked Apr 26 '12 at 0:10 Renan 2542520 2 That's the worst design decision I've ever heard...I'd mail the site creator in addition to any other solution you find. –Ben Brocka Apr 26 '12 at 0:37 can you provide a link? what kind of dialog box is this? maybe you could add specific css/js over a plugin to hide the dialog by default. –GNi33 Apr 26 '12 at 8:32 @BenBrocka Yep, it's like something from back in the days of Netscape Navigator and IE4... –Bob Apr 26 '12 at 10:02 @BenBrocka IBM ClearQuest behaves this way. They update the "allowed browser list" between versions, but that doesn't mean the OP's organization keeps it up-to-date. Anyway I know it's a late comment but just wanted to put the "ClearQuest" keyword on this page in case anyone is looking for a solution. –Oak Aug 1 '13 at 13:44 add a comment| 1 Answer 1 active oldest votes up vote 4 down vote accepted To disable JavaScript on a specific site, add it to Chrome's JavaScript exceptions list.
