And I run one windows form application form localhost as a client. Both the programs use TCP socket connection to send/recieve data. Server listens on port 8030. The program works fine. BUt when I enhanced the client program to communicate on specific port let's say 9030. While getting connected to server

My server is experiencing the second part of this exception "established connection failed because connected host has failed to respond". I have approximately 150 persistent client http://stackoverflow.com/questions/20082847/handling-socket-exception-10060-on-already-connected-clients socket connections. Every so often my server is receiving Socket Exception 10060 on some of these connections. I would say roughly 1-3 of these every 5 minutes. Currently when I get this exception on a socket, I disconnect that socket. I have noticed that within 5 seconds to 3 minutes, the client will re-connect. Would it be fair to say that the client is actually having a connection problem and not responding? Should I be disconnecting the client socket when I receive Socket Exception 10060? Or should I be monitoring how many times a particular client/socket receives Socket Exception 10060 and disconnect them after x number of occurences? c# .net sockets share|improve this question edited Nov 19 '13 at 22:30 asked Nov 19 '13 at 21:51 Mausimo 2,87352961 How about posting your code? better, a self contained small example to reproduce it easily by us? –L.B Nov 19 '13 at 21:56 This is not easily reproduced as it only happens to about 1/3 of my clients. Also, the clients are embedded devices. I am more interested in how I should respond to this exception. –Mausimo Nov 19 '13 at 22:02 add a comment| 1 Answer 1 active oldest votes up vote 0 down vote If it's only some clients a

I get the same message all the time. Did I break my precious IceChat 5.50 Build 010905?[09:06] * Attempting to connect to irc.quakenet.org on port 6667 [09:06] * Socket Error: 10060 : The attempt to connect timed out [09:06] * Connection closed from irc.quakenet.org I am sure you know, but I went to look to see what this Window Socket Error Code meant:WSAETIMEDOUT10060 Connection timed out. A connection attempt failed because the connected party did not properly respond after a period of time, or the established connection failed because the connected host has failed to respond. Thanks for the coolest IRC program!GregP.S. I deleted channel.ini but that didn't change anything. Quakenet has a lot of servers, you can get a list off of their website of specific ones.10060 is not a problem with IceChat, its just that the servers are not responding. This happens at times with regular DNS pool server addresses that use irc.networkname.com, its usually better to use a specific server. Also, try using a different port number, say like 7000. At times this helps as well.Channel.ini has nothing to do with this, that file is used to store window locations, sizes of IceChat, so that when you restart IceChat, everything is resized the way you had it previously.
