Most likely your internet provider is blocking your ability to send out email direct from your connection over SMTP port 25, forcing you to either use their mail server for outbound mail delivery or to use an alternate port to connect to mail.yourdomain.com instead of port 25. In Cpanel you can configure it to listen on alternate ports. If you have Cpanel configured to listen on an alternate port that your ISP doesn't block, then use that port as your SMTP port. For instance, I set up Cpanel to listen on TCP port 26 as an alternate port for SMTP connections. I then configure

When i try to send a message from my local email client i get a Socket Error:10061 (Connection Refused error). In the hMailserver logs nothing gets displayed, so it seems hMailserver is not actually listining on port 587. In the hMailserver configuration under "TCP/IP ports" i added "SMTP 587" which, i thought, would make hMailserver listen on that port. No firewalls or anything else i can think of is set up on the server to block port 587 Any help would be appreciated Top ^DooM^ Site Admin Posts: 13862 Joined: 2005-07-29 16:18 Location: UK Quote Postby ^DooM^ » 2008-01-01 21:55 And have yo told your client to send on port 587? You will never be able to send email to any other server on that port either, there is a reason they block port 25 Top AndyK New user Posts: 7 Joined: 2008-01-01 18:52 Quote Postby AndyK » 2008-01-01 23:59 We only use hMailserver. Make sure you restart hMS after any port changes. Verify listening ports by issuingCode: Select allnetstat -ano | find "LISTENING" What ^DooM^ meant was that your server won't be able to participate on the Internet if it's not using port 25. There is no mention of having to restart the service on the "TCP/IP ports" page. Logical, but easy to miss if you are not reminded!
