the number of each extra 'option' purchased by customers for a car company. To that end, I've created the following query to put every option into one column, and then sum the totals for each option in the next column(edited for readability and anonymity). Upon termination of the error prompt, the INTO statement at the bottom is highlighted. Originally, I had seperated each SELECT with parenthesis, but then I got an error of "syntax error from JOIN clause", and found a similar post with the problem, which was fixed by removing parentheses. I also originally had just (...)a to create the alias, but I have turned it into (...) AS a for this because I am not sure if that method of creating an alias works in Access. I have a few theories as to where my problem resides (ordered from most likely to least) I am using () when I should be using [], or I am missing parentheses around some of my UNION calls, or I need to organize my parentheses comp

I have started to write a union query however I think that SQL does not like spaces in field names. Here is my SQL SELECT Claimant Name as http://www.mrexcel.com/forum/microsoft-access/433492-union-query-spaces-sql.html [Claimant Name] FROM tbl_AIG UNION SELECT Name as [Claimant Name] FROM tbl_Liberty; It is not selecting the first part "Claimant Name". Is this b/c of the space? The table is an imported excel file and that is how the column heading comes acrosss. If you do, you must surround the names with the square brackets. How about trying something like this: Code: SELECT [tbl_AIG].[Claimant Name] as Claimant_Name FROM [tbl_AIG] UNION SELECT [tbl_Liberty].[Name] as Claimant_Name FROM [tbl_Liberty]; (it doesn't hurt to surround everything with square brackets!)
