For http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_8-windows_install/command-line-option-syntax-error-on-microsoft/13396a61-fec3-431d-b8e8-b66a1d0b0c40 example, if we had a directory or file name called "computer hope" you would enter the below commands. Copying a file with a space In this first example, we're copying the file "computer hope.txt" into the hope directory. Without the quotes around the file, you will get "The syntax of the command http://www.computerhope.com/issues/ch001336.htm is incorrect." error message. copy "computer hope.txt" hope Moving a file with a space in the file name Next, the below command would move the file "computer hope.txt" into the hope directory. Again, without quotes you will get the error message. move "computer hope.txt" hope Renaming a file with a space in the file name Finally, the below command would rename the same file to "example file.txt", which also has a space in the file name. rename "computer hope.txt" "example file.txt" Additional information See our copy, move, and rename command pages for further information about each of these commands. Tong Vang 9,776 Points Tong Vang Tong Vang 9,776 Points >2y ago It seems I am not allowed to create subdirectory. How do I fix this? 1 Answer Nick Fuller 9,026 Points Nick Fuller Nick Fuller 9,026 Points over 2 years ago Hi Tong! (I'm assuming) You're using Windows and Ruby (Oh boy you're a brave soul!). It certainly is possible, but the few I know whom have tried end up with virtual machines! The issue it seems is the file path structure. You're following the lessons on Treehouse (great idea) but they use Apple with OSX which is unix based. You're using Windows which is DOS based. The directory structure in DOS and OSX are different. DOS uses a backslash "\" and unix systems use a forward slash "/". It looks like you're trying to use a forward slash when you should use a backslash. Furthermore, I'm not sure if windows supports the -p flag (I don't know enough about DOS). perhaps try mkdir spec\features\todo_lists Posting to the forum is only allowed for members with active accounts.
