When I developed the reports, I used a direct Oracle server connection (server address, username/password, SID, port, etc.) and the report worked perfectly. As a limit on our LMS, we're told that we must use ODBC connections instead of a direct Oracle Server connection, but, when I connect the Crystal Report to the Stored Procedure in this http://stackoverflow.com/questions/27019156/crystal-reports-14-0-2-364-oracle-11g-stored-proc-odbc-connection-error-4200 manner, I get a persistent Error 42000:[Oracle][ODBC] Syntax Error or Access Violation error. We have double-checked the drivers and we're up to date. We have verified there are no actual syntax errors in the code. We have verified the username we're logging in as has the correct privileges to run the Oracle Stored Procedure. We've verified that, when supplied with the correct parameters, the Stored Procedure runs. What I'm seeing that I cannot explain is this. There are 4 input parameters to the report and there are 36 returned columns in the recordset that comes back from the stored procedure. Inside Crystal Reports, when I got to Database > Show SQL Query, I get the following: {CALL "SABA_REPORT"."HDT_CORE_GETDATA_DDS_V110"(NULL, NULL, NULL, NULL, NULL, NULL, NULL, NULL, NULL, NULL, NULL, NULL, NULL, NULL, NULL, NULL, NULL, NULL, NULL, NULL, NULL, NULL, NULL, NULL, NULL, NULL, NULL, NULL, NULL, NULL, NULL, NULL, NULL, NULL, NULL, NULL, 'STR0115', '4260', NULL, 'course')} Which shows the 36 returned columns as INPUT parameters (which it should not) as NULL values and then the 4 input parameters: 'STR0115', '4260', NULL, 'course' which are correctly listed. So, I think there's a mismatch between the parameters that are being passed to the Stored Procedure and what the Stored Procedure expects, generating the error. For reference, here's the

The backend is in the server. When I run a report, it is working fine with my Admin userid and password but if I login with the http://bettercodes.blogspot.com/2008/08/microsoftodbc-sql-server-driversyntax.html client userid and password, I get the Error Message :Failed to open a rowset. 42000:[Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][SQL Server] It sound like "Access Violation or syntax error".How to run the report in the client PC ?Hari Thursday, syntax error October 18, 2012 5:04 AM Reply | Quote Answers 0 Sign in to vote To run Profiler you need at least ALTER TRACE permission. If you don't have enough permissions talk with your DBA. Using Profiler should be straightforward. When you come to the screen where you select events, check the box "Show all events", and in the Errors node add Exception and UserMessage. The tricky part is to find a useful filter. If syntax error or you are alone on the server, you don't need any filter, but if there are other users, you need. Hostname often works, but it depends how Crystal sets it. Also make sure that you have RPC:Starting as well SQL:Starting in the trace. ODBC Error code 42000 = "Syntax error or access violation". This could be something that happens in the driver. If the last event in the trace is a Completed, this means that next statement failed inside the client. This error solved by System Administrator. He right click my User name 'hari' --> Properties --> Server Roles --> Select 'sysadmin' (already publis is selected). Then i created a DNS, now the report working fine.Hari Marked as answer by Hari Narayanan.A Wednesday, November 07, 2012 6:45 AM Wednesday, November 07, 2012 6:45 AM Reply | Quote All replies 0 Sign in to vote If you connect with the same userid and password from SSMS does that work? Does that work if you attempt to connect from the same PC? Have you traced with Profiler to see where the error occurs? Maybe you are able to connect, but there
Server 2000. The error is due to use of some ascii character in procedures. Last time, when I used '{' mistakely in a procedure and tried to compile it, then this error come. So, check your procedure properly and you will be able to fix the problem.
