1,527 Posts I know I'm having a hardware issue but I'm not sure which part is the culprit. to the left and wrapped around, so 1/3 of the screen from the left was on the right side of my computer. I turned off the monitor, unplugged and replugged the cord in, still persisted. Then, the screen went black, and I restarted http://www.techsupportforum.com/forums/f15/solved-cpu-over-temperature-error-but-is-it-really-619511.html the computer. When I restarted, the mobo POST screen while booting up had garbled text, and then turned off. The computer wasn't that hot but I waited a bit, cleaned a small amount off dust out in the meantime, and rebooted. While booting up the POST screen said I had a CPU Temp Overheat error, and in the BIOS it said CPU temp was 165° F. I turned the computer off, felt the CPU and it was room temperature. Turned it back on, same error. Went to https://facepunch.com/showthread.php?t=1433765 BIOS and then went to Windows, screen showed my desktop briefly, then went all vertical lines on me, and the computer turned off. Rebooted, skipped the CPU Temp error, and it gave me a blue screen saying Windows didn't recover properly, I clicked restart and the computer turned off mid boot. A bit of history on the computer, I bought the power supply in 2013 to replace a non functioning one but the CPU, Video Card and Mobo I bought in either 2012 or 2011. I bought the OCZ Vertex 4 SSD in 2013, and recently bought the PNY Optima SSD a few months ago. I've had the HDD for years now, and ran it concurrently with the OCZ and now it runs along with the PNY, so 3 Drives in total. The Xonar DX is for my surround sound setup. I'm thinking that it's the power supply mainly because it's only 700W and it's cutting it close, but with the CPU Overtemp and the Graphical glitches I'm not sure if the video card or CPU is involved. Hell, it could be the mobo too, I'm not really sure. If it was the power supply I'm surprised I haven't had any errors before as I use it daily for video games. Any ideas? Hey guys, Started my build yesterday, finished last night. Been having a few major issues with a few things though. PC boots up fine now, but my HDD is not being detected for whatever reason. Post keeps displaying this message: "hard disk not detected" Not detected through bios either. What can be the problem? I'm totally new to PC building and intially had a difficult time getting the optical/HDD connected so perhaps it is not connected properly? My optical drive is being detected just fine, but as mentioned earlier, my HDD is not. My case has hot swap bays (Obsidian 800d) if that helps some. I really want to finish this build but I can't even install windows without the HDD. I've tried reconnecting it, changing data cables/ports and it's not detecting the HDD. What could be the problem? Another issue I'm having during the boot post screen, is it was reporting a "CPU over temperature error". I am using an I5 2500k coupled with an H60 for cooling. I took the H60 off just to make sure it was making proper contact with CPU. The attachment bolts were a bit loose so I tightened them up and made sure thermal paste was evenly distributed (paste was spread out but coating was thin and had a few spots that didn't get totally covered, is this ok?) Regarding the HDD, I changed sata ports and data connections for the HDD once more, but it's still not being detected and while the CPU over temperature error is gone at post now, the bios reading is a different story. Bios is reporting 95 degrees celcius for cpu, wtf? I mean really, it's very cool in my room at the moment and I haven't had the PC on for more than a couple minutes at a time. False readings, perhaps? Also, my ram is being detected at only 1333 mhz, yet I'm supposed to have 1600mhz. Yet another issue I need to sort out. So if someone, anyone, could please help me sort these problems out, I wou
