matsstromberg The ojdbc6.jar from Oracle 11gR2 release is a major PITA issue with the ORA-17002 IO Error showing up constantantly on some targets and others it works io error socket read timed out in oracle just fine. This for all when running it from a headless server

(no console). The reason seems to be that the JDBC 11g needs about 40 bytes of secure random numbers, socket read timed out oracle 11g gathered from /dev/random, to encrypt its connect string. From my point of view, it's simply bad work done on this and nothing to fix it during several years. This is up

till now! Finally with the release of Oracle 12c, Oracle has released a new ojdbc6.jar and this one works without any problem. Since I switched to this I haven't had any connection loss on any of my monitored targets from my OTR Software. Unfortunately Oracle Cloud Control R2 and it's Agent still using the old version and with the environment I have run java.sql.sqlexception socket read timed out into on 3 different projects simply make the Cloud Control really useless since one can't rely on it. Cloud Control can't connect to the target instances and collect it's info which it needs for it's monitoring. Lately having issues on one target server where 4 Oracle 11g Instances is running. All 4 with it's separate listener. The configuration of the listeners are basically the same. It differs in Instance name and Port. 3 Instances works excellent without timeout but the forth get the timeout on 29 out of 30 connect tries. So, just for anyone searching for a solution on this ORA-17002 issue. Just go and download the new 12c ojdbc6.jar driver from Oracle and put the old driver in the trash fast🙂 This would go for any Java application. I got hit using OpenBD and Railo CFML Engines. Now trying to figure out how to get Cloud Control 12cR2 and the Management Agent's to use the new driver as well before I decide to drop Oracle Cloud Control for good. Would be really sad since I've been a fan of Enterprise Manager for many yea
