Io Error: Connection Timed Out
6 down vote favorite I am trying to research this issue on the following two errors connecting to Oracle DBs: Closed Connection java.sql.SQException: Io exception: Socket read timed out My understanding: Closed Connection : Is occurring either because there was some sort of network disruption or the DB closed the session due to some sort "inactivity" java.sql.SQException: Io exception: Socket read timed out : This is a case where the io error socket read timed out vendor code 17002 connection was made successfully but for some reason the socket/data was empty and eventually it timed-out because no data was available. Is it possible to replicate the above errors in a local Oracle DB env ? What are the steps ? I appreciate you taking the time to respond. Thanks. java sql oracle exception jdbc share|improve this question edited May 21 '13 at 20:46 Konstantin Yovkov 45.2k54396 asked May 21 '13 at 20:40 kart0624 45116 add a comment| 2 Answers 2 active oldest votes up vote 0 down vote I have just started working with the java.sql.* package, but here is what I understand. A closed connection is an error that occurs and the DB session closes, but no error handling is done so that is the end of it. With java.SQException you can manage this error (use a throws clause) and print it out or do other error handling methods. Here is a link from Oracle about Exceptions and how to handle them. Hope this helps. Exceptions in Java. share|improve this answer answered May 21 '13 at 21:00 troy_frommer 116120 Thanks for the input. For the Closed Connection error, I am trying to figure out if there's difference between DB closing the connection

Java Sql Sqlexception Socket Read Timed Out Oracle
on May 22, 2014 4:26 PM by Skh-Oracle Seeking for advice on exception: java.sql.SQLRecoverableException: IO Error: Read failed: Connection timed out User771952-Oracle May 21, 2014 3:12 AM I am seeking advice how http://stackoverflow.com/questions/16679108/java-sql-sqexception-io-exception-socket-read-timed-out-vs-closed-connection to identify the exceptions in using WLS datasouce.Fact:1. my app is using WLS datasource2. my app will throw exception regularly in production env: java.sql.SQLRecoverableException: IO Error: Read failed: Connection timed out when executing a statement or setEndToEndMetrics. 3. after checking internet forum, the explaination of above exception could be, 1. WLS will disable the connection pool after trying a couple of times. 2. Root cause https://community.oracle.com/thread/3562525 maybe network or firewall in the env. My question(correct me if I am not on the correct way):1. is there way I can do diagnostic for this problem, such as output jdbc log, or something you think good to do. 2. does WLS has parameters I can set to control the "disabled pool" behaviour? Thanks in advance for any pointer. I have the same question Show 0 Likes(0) 21478Views Tags: none (add) This content has been marked as final. Show 5 replies 1. So far the symptoms have nothing to do with WLS disabling anything. It sounds more likethe application code did a query with a query timeout set on the statement, and the DBMS just didn't respond in time. Like Show 0 Likes(0) Actions 2.
