It seems to work flawlessly under OS X 10.8.1. How long must you wait before the script issues the error message? Malasaña, Madrid Registered: 2002-11-20 Posts: 2014 What is "AppleEvent timed out"? This is an apple event error, which means that you are not allowed to execute more code because you are very slow. For applescript without timeout example, you are targeting the Finder to duplicate a folder, which has a

size of 888 terabytes. After it is duplicated, you wish rename the new folder to "duplicate gotta hey!". This
Apple Event Errors
is the code:Applescript:tell application "Finder" duplicate alias "path:to:really BIG folder:" set name of result to "duplicate gotta hey!" end tellThe Finder will receive the order: "duplicate!" And AppleScript will wait https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4274845?start=0&tstart=0 for a response: "done, sir!".If AppleScript gets tired of waiting for an answer, it will time out and will die throwing the error "AppleEvent timed out". So, the "set name..." line won't be executed.Actually, AS 1.9.1, AppleScript gets tired after 2 minutes. However, you can prevent this from happening using the following statement:Applescript:with timeout of (30 * 60) seconds tell application "Finder" http://macscripter.net/viewtopic.php?id=24461 duplicate alias "path:to:really BIG folder:" set name of result to "duplicate gotta hey!" end tell end timeoutNow, AppleScript will get tired after 30 minutes!Note that this error will happen only when you are targeting a process (eg, the Finder). However, if you use the following code...Applescript:set aFolder to (choose folder with prompt "Choose a folder, please...")... If you were an irresolute folk, you could wait for 17 days before choosing a folder, and you wouldn't receive a timeout error. round-trip linking between OmniFocus and Mail. The pair of scripts here allow you: • to create OmniFocus actions from messages in Apple Mail • jump from linked OmniFocus actions back to the Mail message. Download: the most recent version is available http://forums.omnigroup.com/archive/index.php/t-3809.html here (http://www.rose-hulman.edu/~clifton/software.html) Installation 1. Copy the Add OmniFocus Action script into the folder: ~/Library/Scripts/Applications/Mail creating the folder(s) if necessary. 2. Copy the Open Linked Mail Message script into the folder: ~/Library/Scripts/Applications/OmniFocus creating the folder(s) if necessary. 3. Add the https://blog.7thdomain.com/2012/09/03/auto-archive-script-for-outlook-mac-2011/comment-page-1/ Scripts menu to your menu bar if you haven't already by opening the AppleScript Utility, located in Applications/AppleScript/, and selecting the “Show Script Menu in menu bar” checkbox. The menu should appear on the right side of the menu timed out bar. Running When running Mail, the Add OmniFocus Action item should appear in the scripts menu. Select a message in Mail, then run the script. You should find a new action in your OmniFocus Inbox awaiting a context and project designation. When running OmniFocus, the Open Linked Mail Message item should appear in the scripts menu. Select a linked action in OmniFocus, then run the script. The mail message should open. Disclaimer I haven't tested the scripts with event timed out IMAP accounts. OmniFocus is still in alpha testing, so the scripts may break at any time. I suspect that I'll continue to use and maintain them until the Omni Group provides built-in support, so I'm likely to maintain the scripts for awhile at least. johnrover2007-06-11, 05:45 AMAwesome. This is great. This makes OF twice as useful to me. One request - does anyone know how to make the script select the message in the main mail window (and have it open in the preview pane) instead of opening it in a new window? It's really helpful to see the message in the context of it's thread / folder / mailtags, etc instead of just opening it. curt.clifton2007-06-11, 06:15 AMAwesome. This is great. UPDATE: I have now released a new tool for archiving in Outlook Mac 2011 which is a native Mac Application. It is significantly more stable, featured and faster than the AppleScript. It also supports archiving mail to the cloud (such as a GMail account) which keeps your archive safely backed up and accessible/searchable anywhere in the world. If you've enjoyed the free AppleScript, please consider upgrading to Outlook Archive Tool even just as a donation for the hard work: Feature Comparison Background If you aren't in the know: Archiving for Outlook is a process of automatically copying your full email folder structure and/or calendar events from the exchange server to a local folder structure on your computer. It's used in scenarios like: - Your company operates a data limit or ‘delete mail after x days' policy which means you must move mail out of the exchange account to not cause disruption to your flow of mail (or to not suffer data loss of important mails in your past history) - You want to keep your exchange account lean for performance reasons, but still be able to search gigs of mail going back many years - You have a number of attachments in calendar events from years back that accumulate over time to lower the available data quota for email - You aren't happy with more manual methods of dragging mail down to your local storage when you happen to remember…etc The search for a tool: First stop was to Google for an AppleScript that would do the job.
