You'll probably have to get into some specifics of your dad's network setup (i.e. test for some of those problems) in order to get specific help. –JoshP Jul 18 '12 at 22:48 Coincidentally, my campus had a power outage (which outlasted the long length UPS on the target machine) at the same time as my apartment. So when the power outage forced me to SSH in from my dad's for the first time, it also knocked the target computer out. I'm guessing if you tried to ping X you would see that ping would fail too. –Andy Dalton Aug 12 '15 at 13:34 Server X is pinging . –Praveen Korrapati Aug 12 '15 at 13:43 What is the result of telnet x 22. X would be your server ip and 22 would be the port on which SSH server is running. –Vidyadhar Aug 12 '15 at 14:40 X server is connecting/pinging from every where except from putty. –Praveen Korrapati Aug 12 '15 at 14:42 | show 5 more comments active oldest votes Know someone who can answer?
