write error on host string: No

space left on device.Next: NIS+ authentication failureNFS write failed for server string: RPC: Timed out Cause This error can occur when a file system is soft mounted, and server or network response time lags. Any data written to the server during this period could be corrupted. Action If you intend to write on a file system, never specify the soft-mount option. Use the default hard mount for all the file systems that are mounted read-write. See Also For more information, see the chapter on NFS troubleshooting in the System Administration Guide, Volume 3. But however widespread networks have become, managing a network and getting it to perform well can still be a problem.Managing NFS and NIS, in a new edition based on Solaris 8, is a guide to two tools that are absolutely essential to distributed computing environments: the Network Filesystem (NFS) and the Network Information System (formerly called the "yellow pages" or YP).The Network Filesystem, developed by Sun Microsystems, is fundamental
supplied in a mount, the RPC retransmission sequence ends at the first major timeout, producing messages like:
NFS write failed http://www.e-reading.club/htmbook.php/orelly/networking_2ndEd/nfs/ch18_02.htm for server wahoo: error 5 (RPC: Timed out) NFS write error https://www.experts-exchange.com/questions/25371631/NFS-errors-on-AIX.html on host wahoo: error 145. (file handle: 800000 2 a0000 114c9 55f29948 a0000 11494 5cf03971) The NFS operation that failed is indicated, the server that failed to respond before the major timeout, and the filehandle of the file affected. RPC timeouts may be caused by extremely slow timed out servers, or they can occur if a server crashes and is down or rebooting while an RPC retransmission cycle is in progress. With soft-mounted filesystems, you have to worry about damaging data due to incomplete writes, losing access to the text segment of a swapped process, and making soft-mounted filesystems more tolerant of variances in server response time. failed for server If a client does not give the server enough latitude in its response time, the first two problems impair both the performance and correct operation of the client. If write operations fail, data consistency on the server cannot be guaranteed. The write error is reported to the application during some later call to write( ) or close( ), which is consistent with the behavior of a local filesystem residing on a failing or overflowing disk. When the actual write to disk is attempted by the kernel device driver, the failure is reported to the application as an error during the next similar or related system call. A well-conditioned application should exit abnormally after a failed write, or retry the write if possible. If the application ignores the return code from write( ) or close( ), then it is possible to corrupt data on a soft-mounted filesystem. Some write operations may fail and never be retried, leaving holes in the open file. To guarantee data integrity, all filesystems mounted read-write should be hard-mounted. NFS write error on host csc01nfs1: 78. cp: /nfsser1/oraapp.dump: Connection timed out But when I try to copy small files its copying with no errors, Do NFS has some limitations on clients and also last but not the least my Client is a VIO client 0 Question by:sgangenamoni Facebook Twitter LinkedIn Google LVL 68 Active today Best Solution bywoolmilkporc For clarification - when I wrote "The NFS server ... has no real tuning capabilities" I meant the tuning of a single exported filesystem. The server daemon itself, nfsd, has of course tuning and configuration Go to Solution 4 Comments LVL 68 Overall: Level 68 Unix OS 53 Message Active today Expert Comment by:woolmilkporc2010-03-17 Hi again, if I understand you right your NFS client is on AIX? If so, you have some mount options to influence timeouts and performance. General syntax is "mount -o option ..." (rather use smitty, see below), where options of interest might be - retrans=n - retransmissions before giving up. Default: 5 - rsize=n - read buffer size. Default 32768 - wsize=n - write buffer size. Default 32768 - timeo=n - timeout in 1/10 seconds. Default 100. All of the above values are changeable via "smitty chnfsmnt". I'd recommend experimenting a bit, particularly with timeo and retrans. The NFS server, on the other hand, has no real tuning capabilities. And No, in my experience it's of no influence at all whether the client's peripherals come over VIO or consist of dedicated hard
