IIRC, the RFC requires that an MX accepts=20 at least 100 recipients per message. No, Postfix does not have an error message pr and interpreter (and=20 the 452 code does not indicate a one recipient per message policy). The message would hang around in the queue until the message expires=20 (maximal_queue_lifetime) and then bounce it. To get around silly hosts, you can define an extra service in master.cf=20 (with an override for smtp_destination_recipient_limit) and use a=20 transport map to direct mail destined to silly domains to that service. --=20 Magnus B=E4ck lth.se Magnus Reply With Quote 12-16, 01:52 PM #3 Re: 452: too many recipients Jacob Ln: Presumably, this reply is given after one RCPT TO is accepted, otherwise no mail would ever be delivered. Postfix delivers the mail (for the accepted recipient) and tries the rest later. This results in mail delivery with a lot of delay. By the way, the SMTP standard requires that an SMTP server accepts 100 recipients. One violates rules at their own risk. Wietse Wietse Reply With Quote 12-16, 02:04 PM #4 Re: 452:

Thread Tools 27 Nov 2004, 01:31 PM #1 JWegter Junior Member Join Date: Nov 2004 Posts: 1 452 4.5.3 Too many recipients I have used Outlook 2002 with Fastmail, and an AOL Dialup connection for over a year. At times I send to groups of 20-30 recipients, and have done this repeatedly without a problem. Now the last few weeks, with no changes in configuration, I am getting the above error message even with groups as small as 5 or 8 recipients, and the mail simply will not go through. Help? Posts: 4,034 What SMTP server are you using with Fastmail? If you are using your ISP's SMTP server, which could have changed policies recently? Also, did your subscription level change in the mean time? And thirdly, did you try to do the same from the FM web interface or another email client - to make sure that this isn't a problem on Outlook's end PS: Welcome to the forums. I had a look at the limitations associated with each service level and did not find anything that looked like it would apply. Is this expected behaviour? I am using FM's proxy SMTP gateway. Posts: 4,034 ^ Umm, yeah. If you are using FM's SMTP, you are limited to 100 recepients per email message. So you are going to have to break up that list into 3. I don't know if this particular issues is written down anywhere officially, but that's what I found while trying to send emails to my entire address book about my recent email address change (umm, no, I am not leaving FM, but I just bought my own domain).
