vray scene, including a detailed character and a detailed city, most of the detail is in vrayproxy form. However when I try to render vray first warns me about a memory allocation failure vray error unhandled exception rendering region and subsequently max crashes. How do I fix it? My current theories: 1. get more RAM (well duh) 2.render only bits of the scene (tried to render small portions of the scene, it still crashed) any setting that will solve this? scorpion00708-17-2007, 01:45 PMRender in layers and composite. Hide everything but the BG elements to keep scene complexity low, render. Then render the mid-ground. Then cleaning up bitmap manager the foreground. You get the idea. yuriythebest08-17-2007, 10:04 PMRender in layers and composite. Hide everything but the BG elements to keep scene complexity low, render. Then render the mid-ground. When I delete the high poly foreground elements it renders ok. superhypersam08-17-2007, 10:11 PMWelcome to using Vray! we have had the same issues, and it seems the culprits are many. one quick hack that has worked. save out a preset for your vray settings. then save selected sections of your scene (not hide) in the manner scorpoin mentioned above. Apply your vray settings to the new scenes. This has worked on some scenes, but not others. worth a try though cheers sam Sophokless08-17-2007, 11:24 PM... and having a RAM issue try to render out to *.vrimg and not to your frame buffer. That usually helps alot when runnig out of memory. Dome3D08-18-2007, 02:17 AMHi there you should check out the Vray forums. They are very helpful there. http://www.chaosgroup.com/forum/phpBB2/index.php?id=6880c62a4483391f414d6785cc0fe4e9 A few other things you can try is running the 3GB swith (I assume your running

Vray memory error - Problem rendering big image- Rendering large images for print Do you have problems rendering big Vray images? Are you running out of memory with high resolution renderings? Do you get a message: "Error http://3d-visualisointi.blogspot.com/2011/01/vray-memory-error-problem-rendering-big.html creating bitmap" ,when rendering large image in 3ds max? Do you need http://forums.3dtotal.com/showthread.php?t=38402 help with fixing a memory error? Then try these quick fixes: (These instructions are for 3ds max 2011 and V-ray 1.5, but they can be applied to other 3d programs too.)Quick fixes:1. Purge scene memorySave the scene. Reset it and open it again and then renderThis should be unhandled exception done always before trying to render a big image2. Disable unnecessary applications and processes Anti-virus,automatic updates..3. Save as Tiff, VRimg or Exr4. Use Bitmap pagerF10 Render Setup ->Common Tab->Bitmap Performance and Memory Options->Setup5. Disable frame buffer3DS MAX - F10 Render Setup->Common Tab->Untick "Rendered Frame Window" VRAY - F10 Render Setup->V-ray Tab->Frame Buffer->Untick "Enable built-in Frame Buffer"6. Use proxies (V-ray)For objects that vray unhandled exception have lots of polygons. Right-click on the object and select "V-ray mesh export"->Select "Export each selected object in a separate file"->Select " Automatically create proxies"->Ok7. Clear out unused cached bitmaps F11 MaxScript Listener->type: FreeSceneBitmaps()8. Keep it clean Delete unused materials, UVW maps and objects from the scene9. Use 3d displacement method for large displacement maps (Vray)2d displacement method uses lots of memory with large mapsAlso use same displacement modifier for all objects that have same displacement map10. Use the "Blowup" or "Crop" rendering method in 3ds maxLink to instructions: Click here11. Use dynamic memory (V-ray) F10 Render Setup->Settings Tab->System->Default Geometry->Dynamic Change "Dynamic memory limit" to a value that suits you best. If you have 4GB of RAM and a 32 bit OS you should enter 2000-3000MB. If you have 12GB RAM,64bit OS enter around 8000-10000MB.12. Change Bucket Size (V-ray)F10 Render Setup->Settings Tab->System->Render Region Division->change to 32. ( This slows down the rendering though)13. It's always on exterior scenes where I use vray fur and/or displacement. Also, there are 3D trees and cars. This is the picture that rendered normally before but I changed few things and now I just get errors :-( Anyone familiar with this? I have vray 1.47.03, and I don't see any new versions on the horizon, so I'm kinda troubled. Doesn't vray people know abou this? I tried reducing that "max. tree depth" from 60 to 20, so it uses less memory but it didn't help. I have 4 GB of RAM, but also 2 dual core processors, so maybe they all need alot of RAM? I just don't get it. Please help __________________ www.hrvojedesign.com Crayox View Public Profile Visit Crayox's homepage! Also if I`m not mistaken unless you use something like a 3gb switch your app will only take advantage of 2 gb of memory anyways. Contact vray...... BTW, I have 64 bit processor and Win XP 64, so all 4GB are detected. __________________ www.hrvojedesign.com Crayox View Public Profile Visit Crayox's homepage!
