failure yuriythebest08-17-2007, 11:56 AMI have a complex vray scene, including a detailed character and a detailed city, most of the detail is in vray dynamic memory limit vrayproxy form. However when I try to render vray first warns me about a memory allocation failure and subsequently max crashes. How do I fix it? My current theories: 1. get more RAM (well duh) 2.render only http://forums.autodesk.com/t5/shading-lighting-and-rendering/vray-error-unhandled-exception-memory-allocation-vray/td-p/4138174 bits of the scene (tried to render small portions of the scene, it still crashed) any setting that will solve this? scorpion00708-17-2007, 01:45 PMRender in layers and composite. Hide everything but the BG elements to keep scene complexity low, render. Then render the mid-ground. Then the foreground. You get the idea. yuriythebest08-17-2007, 10:04 PMRender in layers and composite. Hide everything but the BG elements to keep scene complexity low, render. Then render the mid-ground. Then the http://forums.cgsociety.org/archive/index.php?t-530077.html foreground. You get the idea. the problem is that even with everything but the background hidden it still crashes. When I delete the high poly foreground elements it renders ok. superhypersam08-17-2007, 10:11 PMWelcome to using Vray! we have had the same issues, and it seems the culprits are many. one quick hack that has worked. save out a preset for your vray settings. then save selected sections of your scene (not hide) in the manner scorpoin mentioned above. Apply your vray settings to the new scenes. This has worked on some scenes, but not others. worth a try though cheers sam Sophokless08-17-2007, 11:24 PM... and having a RAM issue try to render out to *.vrimg and not to your frame buffer. That usually helps alot when runnig out of memory. Dome3D08-18-2007, 02:17 AMHi there you should check out the Vray forums. They are very helpful there. http://www.chaosgroup.com/forum/phpBB2/index.php?id=6880c62a4483391f414d6785cc0fe4e9 A few other things you can try is running the 3GB swith (I assume your running the 32 bit version of Max and Vray). This will allow Windows to allocate more memory to Max. Also check your settings in the bitmap pager. Hope this hslps yuriythebest08-18-2007, 05:44 AMSophokless- afraid that didn't help superhypersam- I'll give it a shot later on, however since I've previously tried deleting the most high poly objects it still didn't help, so compositing fixing thi

Hi James, If you are running 64 bit, you shouldn't get out of memory errors like that and you should be running 64 bitmax because 64 bit is required for 3D graphics. If you are running a 32 bit OS you can try the 3 gb switch. Dynamic memory limit shouldn't cause errors like that because it will just use a paging file instead. Though it is definitely a good idea

It's always on exterior scenes where I use vray fur and/or displacement. Also, there are 3D trees and cars. This is the picture that rendered normally before but I changed few things and now I just get errors :-( Anyone familiar with this? I have vray 1.47.03, and I don't see any new versions on the horizon, so I'm kinda troubled. Doesn't vray people know abou this? I tried reducing that "max. tree depth" from 60 to 20, so it uses less memory but it didn't help. I have 4 GB of RAM, but also 2 dual core processors, so maybe they all need alot of RAM? I just don't get it. Please help __________________ www.hrvojedesign.com Crayox View Public Profile Visit Crayox's homepage! Also if I`m not mistaken unless you use something like a 3gb switch your app will only take advantage of 2 gb of memory anyways. Contact vray...... BTW, I have 64 bit processor and Win XP 64, so all 4GB are detected. __________________ www.hrvojedesign.com Crayox View Public Profile Visit Crayox's homepage! And most likely will be for quite a while yet. Even windows 64 bit ships with a few 32 bit features.ie: 2 versions of internet explorer. The software makers are holding off till windows64 is more reliable then slowly they will change. But for now you still have a 32bit Max application. Just google 3gb switch...... you might wanna move this thread to help-advice section look at it this way....there
