Solved Cannot recreate OWA virtual directory Posted on 2014-01-22 Exchange SBS Microsoft IIS Web Server 1 Verified Solution 6 Comments 6,829 Views Last Modified: 2014-01-22 HI all, I have this SBS2011 with Exchange2010 with a missing OWA virtual directory. It simply isn't there. In EMC, under https://www.experts-exchange.com/questions/28344867/Cannot-recreate-OWA-virtual-directory.html Server Configuration\Client Access, the Outlook Web App is blank. If I click on "Reset Virtual Directory" I cannot see OWA. Using the shell, I get the following errors : [PS] C:\Windows\system32>New-OwaVirtualDirectory -InternalUrl 'https://SERVER/owa' -WebSiteName 'Default Web Site' Creating a new session for implicit remoting of "New-OwaVirtualDirectory" command... It has taken months for me to find a solution to this in the Lab – including many hours pouring over Google – all of error occurred while which was to no avail (there is nothing out there about this particular problem). Anyhow – you may have seen the article that I posted here which discusses a potential solution to uninstalling Exchange 2010 from a server when it was previously a DAG configuration – where the DAG was removed (however improperly) and then Service Pack 1 fails. The whole reason why I wanted to remove Exchange from the server (and start again) was because whilst initially trying to apply SP1 to my (at the time) function 2010 RTM environment - I kept getting the following error; Client Access Role Failed Error: The following error was generated when "$error.Clear(); new-AutodiscoverVirtualDirectory -DomainController $RoleDomainController -WSSecurityAuthentication:$true " was run: "An error occurred while creating the IIS virtual directory 'IIS://LAB-EX21K-02.justice.lab.com/W3SVC/1/ROOT/Autodiscover' on 'LAB-EX21K-02'.". Community! Creating your account only takes a few minutes. Join Now Had an issue with OWA and autodiscovery today in the SBS for one of the companies I look after. I mucked around a bit but couldn't get things working properly so I used my Google-Fu and came to this; https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd767439%28v=ws.10%29.aspx I did a backup of the IIS and then ran this script. It craps out all the Exchange virtual directories and then fails trying to recreate them. New-owavirtualdirectory : An error occurred while creating the IIS virtual directory 'IIS://SBS/W3SVC/3/ROOT/owa' on 'SBS'. At line:1 char:1 I've Googled the error and parts of the error and got nowhere. So I restored the backup of IIS. Now it's even worse. When the manual command to re-add the autodiscover virtual directory did not work, I followed that article completely. As in removed the CAS role, rebooted and reinstalled the CAS role from the SP3 install folder, (once you've installed SP2 you can no longer use the SBS Disc2 to repair Exchange).
