Installing Vmware View Agent
peterbrown05 Is USB Redirection broken by VMware Tools 9.0.5.23141? JasonPearceAtRiverview Sep 25, 2013 8:13 AM vmware view agent logs I recently upgraded my ESXi hosts from version 5.1.0 v1117900 to v1157734. I'm now attempting to upgrade VMware Tools on all of my VMware View https://kb.vmware.com/kb/1029288 parent virtual machines from v9.0.5.21789 to v9.0.5.23141. Doing so, however, appears to break USB Redirection for all recomposed linked-clone desktops.USB keyboards and mice continue to work. But USB storage and scanners are not being recognized by the guest OS. I've reproduced this problem on two separate parent virtual machines and desktop https://communities.vmware.com/thread/458071?start=0&tstart=0 pools. My System:VMware Horizon View Administrator is 5.2.0 build-987719VMware vCenter is 5.1.0 build-1123961Desktop OS is Windows 7 32-bitMy Procedure:I've attempted two procedures:Procedure 1:Uninstall VMware View Agent, rebootUpgrade VMware Tools, rebootReinstall VMware View Agent, shutdown, snapshotRecompose desktop poolUSB stops working (but is installed)Procedure 2:Uninstall VMware View Agent, rebootUninstall VMware Tools, rebootInstall VMware Tools (all features), rebootInstall VMware View Agent (all features), shutdown, snapshotRecompose desktop poolUSB stops working (but is installed)My Question:Is anyone else experiencing this problem with these versions of Tools and Agent? Are you able to have USB redirection from a linked-clone VM running Tools 9.0.5.23141, Agent 5.2.0.987719, and ESXi 1157734? 2292Views Tags: none (add) vdiContent tagged with vdi, vmware_toolsContent tagged with vmware_tools, usbContent tagged with usb, usb_redirectionContent tagged with usb_redirection, vmware_view_agentContent tagged with vmware_view_agent, vmware_horizon_viewContent tagged with vmware_horizon_view This content has been marked as final. How To fix most VMware View Agent issues In exceptional circumstances it’s possible that VMware View Agent will not work properly in your desktop template. If this occurs some features such as ThinPrint and USB redirection might not be properly activated. Ryan Simonovich 03/07/2013 at 8:28 am (UTC -7) Link to this comment I arrived at Step 11 (Install VMWare Tools) and received this error: The virtual machine does not have a CD-ROM drive configured. A virtual machine must have vmware view agent a CD-ROM drive configured for this option to work. It turns out that one of the preceding steps deleted the CD-ROM drive from the image. After a shutdown, I was able add a CD-ROM drive back to the parent image through edit settings. Once the VM was back up, I was able to successfully run the Install VMWare tools wizard. iwan rahabok 11/23/2013 at 3:30 am (UTC -7) Link to this comment I cannot even uninstall the View agent. From the control panel, it started well to uninstall, then it hit a problem and it rolled back. There are quite a number of log files, but not sure if uninstall write to the same log files.
