error 800B0001 when I try to run Windows Update. I have tried the fix found at http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2720211 already with no luck. When I'm adding a new system to our network, I use a registry entry to enter the settings and another one to remove them when I'm finished (I have a computer repair shop so we see lots of computers come through). Here's the registry key used to instruct the system to look to the WSUS server for updates: [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\WindowsUpdate] "WUServer"="http://192.168.5.23" "WUStatusServer"="http://192.168.5.23" [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\WindowsUpdate\AU] "UseWUServer"=dword:00000001 "IncludeRecommendedUpdates"=dword:00000001 "NoAutoUpdate"=dword:00000000 "AUOptions"=dword:00000002 "ScheduledInstallDay"=dword:00000000 "ScheduledInstallTime"=dword:00000010 Any ideas? Pro Computer I have number of Windows 8 joined to a domain that also has a WSUS (Windows Server Update Services) to manage all internal Windows windows update error 800b0001 windows 7 x64 updates. All ran well except for one thing, none of these Windows 8 800b0001 windows 7 machines were able to run Windows Updates. They were all getting the same message with an error code 800B0001.
Windows Update Error 800b0001 Wsus
Since the update went through fine if I go with the option "check online for updates from Windows Update", I felt that the problem should reside on the server side instead of https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/windows/en-US/ed0b0865-ae33-437c-9f64-b5d31f8a0f2f/windows-8-pro-wsus-error-800b0001?forum=w8itproinstall on these Windows 8 machines. Turns out, it failed because Windows 8 uses a new version of Windows update agent that's not supported by WSUS 3.0 SP2. It requires a special update (KB2734608) that lets WSUS server to provide the updates to computers that are running Windows 8 or Windows Server 2012. Download the update (about 30MB) and install it on WSUS. It doesn't http://www.nextofwindows.com/fix-windows-update-error-800b0001-on-windows-8-pro-computer require a reboot but to be safe, reboot the server if possible. Once it's all set, run the Windows updates again on these Windows 8 computers. In my case, it all went well after the update. If for some reason it still doesn't fix your problem, you can try the following Group Policy to bypass WSUS when it comes to Windows Update. Run gpedit on a command prompt window, navigate down to Computer Configuration / Administrative Templates / System Double-click "Specify settings for optional component installation and component repair", click Enable radio, and check the option "Contact Windows Update directly to download repair content instead of Windows Server Update Services (WSUS)" Click OK to save all settings. Next time when you run Windows Update, it will bypass internal WSUS server and go talk to Microsoft Update directly. During the troubleshooting and research to fix this specific problem, I came across a few other things that I thought it would be good to share at the same time. If Windows Updates are not through WSUS or still failed even with the option "Check online for updates from Windows Update", that's probably because
Windows could not serach for new updates There was a problem checking for updates. Error(s) found: Code 800B0001 Windows Update ran into a problem. A work around is to click "Check http://www.cryer.co.uk/brian/windows/troubleshooting/windows_update_800B0001.htm online for updates fromMicrosoft Update" which works, however this leaves regular automatic windows updates http://www.urtech.ca/2012/07/solved-updates-from-the-wsus-server-result-in-error-800b0001-since-latest-windows-update-agent-installed/ as not working. Possible causes and remedies: If your machine is part of a Windows domain (so mostly company networks and not home pcs) then this error may indicate that your PC is trying to pick up Windows updates from a local server running WSUS and that server is failing to provide updates. windows update To see if this could affect you, run the following at an elevated command prompt: gpresult /h %temp%\report.htm /f /scope computer & %temp%\report.htm This will generate a report showing the effect of policies on your computer, and then open that report in your browser. Search in that report for "Specify intranet Microsoft update service location". If that setting is "Enabled" then the problem may be with windows update error the server indicated in the value underneath for "Set the intranet update service for detecting updates". The remedy is to either: Raise this with the administrator responsible for the server. Ask the administrator to either change the policy or fix the issue with WSUS.In my case, it was a small domain of only three computers and it was simpler to change the domain policy. If you want to remove the policy from the server (and consider whether this is what you want to do instead of fixing the issues with WSUS) then: Look at the output from gpresult above, because this will show the "Winning GPO". On the domain server use "Group Policy Management" to edit that group policy. Navigate down to: Local Computer Policy Computer Configuration Administrative Templates Windows Cmponents Windows Update Open "Specify intranet Microsoft update service location" and set it to "Disabled". Run "gpupdate" on the local machine to pick up the change (or simply wait). or Edit the local computer policy to instead pull down updates directly from Microsoft. To do this: On the local computer run gpedit.mscThis will start the Local Group Policy Editor. Navigate down to: Local Computer Policy Computer Configuration Administra

This is the same as: http://social.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/partnerwinclient7rc/thread/e64bdfef-f92a-4924-85f1-6b858ec81c59 All of the machines in question are Win 7 64Bit Enterprise and are of varying makes and models (ie. Toshiba R700 laptops, whitebox PC's…). Machines without the recent Windows Update Agent, work just fine with either my WSUS server or MS Update. I have run KB949104's FixIt tool and it does find errors, says it repaired them but the problem still exists and if I run the FixIt tool again, it finds the same errors. SOLUTION: This is apparently a known issue Microsoft has a hot fix for. Below is the process I followed based on what the kbase and Microsoft partner support told me: All of these instructions are to be performed on the WSUS Server. Download and run Update for Windows Server Update Services 3.0 SP2 for x64-based Systems (KB2720211) After the hotfix is complete, Stop your WWW Service Stop you UPDATE SERVICES Service Perform an IISRESET (which seemed redundant to me, but it does start the WWW service) Start your UPDATE SERVICES Even though the hotfix did not say it requires a reboot, MS support was quite clear that it did require a reboot. However, I did not reboot my WSUS server and all is well now 🙂 Share This With Your Friends Now: Related Tags: Error 800B0001, fixit tool, FROM YOUR SYSTEM ADMINISTRATOR, KB2720211, KB94910, Windows Server Update Services, Windows Update Agent, wsus Baroody07-16-15 Many thanks Ian, it took me a lot of time to find this fix… Reply Baroody07-16-15 Many thanks, it took me a lot of time to find this fix.
