I have a HP Compaq C552US. When I try to restore it from the partition, I keep getting an error message during the restore process. It is error 1002. Can anyone explain to me what is going on? I called Tech support and they are sending me some new discs. If the partition will not work, how will the new disks work? Can someone explain this also? 375 Messages: 418 Likes Received: 0 Trophy Points: 30 Hi guys, I've recently performed a couple of System Recovery procedures (restoring the laptop to factory condition) and a friend asked me to do it to her Compaq http://forum.notebookreview.com/threads/urgent-help-required.609017/ Presario CQ60. But disaster has reared it's ugly head... This is what I have done http://www.howtogeek.com/forum/topic/bootmgr-is-missing-16 - 1. Took all files (pictures/ word documents) from the Compaq and stored them on my own laptop. 2. Hit the F11 key at the BIOS screen to access the System Recovery screen. 3. Ticked the box that said "Perform System Recovery" 4. Immediately received a message saying "Error 1002: Please contact HP for further support". 5. The computer rebooted and now windows vista all I get is the message "BOOTMGR is missing"... I can still access the System Recovery menu, although it always results in Error 1002, followed by "BOOTMGR is missing" on restart. The first time I tried the recovery procedure I attempted to recover it from the HDD Partition. I have since tried using recovery disks that were created at a much earlier date but the Error 1002 pop's up at some point after disk 2 has been hp recovery manager inserted. I really, REALLY need some help here! Professional recovery is out of the question and I can't take this computer back in it's present condition... Any advice you can give would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance! EDIT: Ok, just tried running a command prompt through the Recovery Manager to fix this BOOTMGR issue. "Bootrec /fixboot" Said the operation completed successfully although when I rebooted I still got the message saying "BOOTMGR is missing". So I just tried to recover using the disk again and it got to 80% of the first step (reformatting the partition) and I got a slightly different error - ERROR 1005: contact HP for further support. HELP!!! EDIT again! Ok now after the BIOS screen where it briefly allows you to hit an F key to perform various functions, I just get a black screen with a single flashing underscore in the top left corner. No matter what F key I press on the BIOS screen thingy this keeps happening. This is getting supah serious... The link below will provide the steps to take. Relax - odds are good that only your bootmgr files were corrupted. Nothing else. Though, IMO, given from w

Hi guys and girls Sorry if this has been done to death, but it haven't found a thread that fits with my problem, so I'd be really grateful for any help. I tried to do a full system restore on my Compaq Presario Laptop, CQ60-214EM, which I bought from John Lewis. The restore started to work fine, but then gave me an error message saying it could not be completed (windows error 1002?) and that it had to restart. It re-started, but now I have an error message saying BOOTMGR is not available press Ctrl+Alt+Del to re-start. As I bought it with vista pre-loaded i dont have the vista software to re-install the whole system. However i have tried to use a boot disk (as per your guide) and used both the startup repair option (it said that it can't auto fix) and the bootrec /fixboot, it says the operation completed successfully (almost instantly) however, when I re-start it it still says BOOTMGR is missing. Also, when I get to the System Recovery Options screen there is no Operating System there, I tried to select the load drivers bit, and use the drivers off the computer (it still recognises my C: drive (which it says is empty) and my D: drive (the recovery one) but neither of these have any usable files in). It also wont let me do either a system restore or a windows complete PC restore from the vista disk I borrowed. Would I be able to load the full operating system off this disk (using my product key) then do a system restore using the recovery bit from my pre-loaded software? Any ideas would be really really appreciated. Sending it back to compaq is totally not an option as I had some very work sensitive information on there that could get me into some very serious trouble with the boss if any tech guy stumbled on it. Thanks in advance, and sorry for the epic post. Reports: · Posted 7 years ago Top LH Posts: 20002 This post has been reported. Hi climbingpie. As long as the disk is the same "flavour" as the original installation, then yes, you can use your product key. As for the recovering your pre-installed s/w. I am not sure. You may have to ask Compaq for some new disks. Edit. What s/w was it ? Reports: · Posted 7 years ago Top climbingpie Posts: 2 This post has been reported. Hi LH, thanks for the speedy response. Ill contact compaq, as
