Latitude E5400, which is running Windows 7. The Windows Update control panel fails with "unknown error" 80072EE2. The Microsoft help for that error just says the obvious try again later and check your firewall: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-vista/Windows-Update-error-80072ee2
Windows Vista Won't Update
I've tried several times over the past week. I disabled Norton and that did not make any difference. If I try to go to Windows Update on the Web with Internet Explorer, it takes me to this URL: http://test.update.microsoft.com/windowsupdate/v6/vistadefault.aspx That fails to load, instead I get the message "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage." Windows Update works fine with the three other PCs on this network (though they are windows vista can't find updates all running XP). This PC has no Internet connectivity issues with any other site. Verified Answer Posted by LoginBroken on 23 Feb 2011 14:05 Verified Answer Verified by LornaDoone Microsoft support had me do the following, which seems to have solved the problem. Presumably there are some inappropriate policies set in the drive image Dell used to install Windows 7. Remove Group Policy ================ Before we proceed, please backup the Registry. 1. Click Start, type REGEDIT in the Start Search bar and press Enter. 2. Select My Computer (the root node) in the left pane, click Export under the File menu, choose All under Export range, select Desktop in the Save in box and type backup in File Name. Click Save. Please Note: The backup file is on the Desktop and named backup.reg. We can simply restore the registry by double-clicking the backup.reg file. 1. Click Start, type REGEDIT in the Start Search bar and press Enter. 2. Locate the following key in the left pane: [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Policies\Microsoft] 3. Highlight “Microsoft” folder and click "Delete". 4. Please repeat to delete the following keys: [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Group Policy] [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies\Microsoft

Don't know what happened but today after installing the 'patch tuesday' updates I get this error code. So I googled it a bit and did the manual fix MS offers (no way I will use the FixIt thing - last time I tried it messed everything up like crazy), windows vista but so far no luck. Already went back to an image, but it appears the flaw was there too (still wondering how it found out about the current updates, but that's probably me missing something LOL) and the other images are quite a bit older. I don't really want to go there. Any help in resolving this very welcome. Reports: · Posted 3 years ago Top Drizzle Posts: windows vista won't 2045 This post has been reported. SarahJames, Unless the Fixit solves the issue this is what MS says. :( :( ----------------------------------------------------------------- Code Error 80070490 checking for Windows Updates The error you are receiving occurs if there is corruption in the Component Based Servicing manifest. The only way to fix this is to do a "repair" install of Windows Vista. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/958044/en-us The "repair" (in-place upgrade) install will not effect your installed programs or data. Just make sure you are already logged into your computer when you start the install. Do not boot from the DVD. If the installation does not start automatically when you insert the DVD, run setup.exe from your DVD drive. •When the Setup program starts and the Install now screen appears, click Install now. •Note When you receive with the Get important updates for installation message, click Go Online. •Click Upgrade when the Which type of installation do you want? screen appears Please let us know if that fixes the issue for you. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Brent Microsoft Answers Support En
