for compiling the information (but I will take credit posting it!). I have to credit OCnewB and Superfro of the Xbox-Scene forums. He is the one who orignally compiled all the information, I just put it here on our forum, but I did clean it up a little, added some imput, and kept only the most recent updated fixes(the original had a lot of fixes that were out of date). So with all that being said, Behold: [bold]XBOX ERROR CODES EXPLAINED[/bold] For those of

you that don't know or are not sure if or when you have seen an error, you will see an error during the normal boot up sequence. Instead of your booting the M$ dashboard or Hacked Dashboard (Evox, UnleashX, Avalaunch, etc.), there will be an message on the screen that says, "Your Xbox Requires Service" and you will see a number on the upper left hand corner of the screen <- this is your error code number. The error codes are listed below Beware, you wont see the bootldr error's because (thanks to: Lordvader129) : "when you see this" is not entirely accurate, you never see the bootloader errors, as they are one that cause the reboot/FRAGs [bold]2 - bootldr - Eeprom check failed[/bold] When you see this error most of the times you have flashed something wrong. Or you dropped solder on your eeprom chips. [bold]4 - bootldr - Ram check failed[/bold] Your Xbox ram chips are wasted. Maybe you dropped a little solder on it (try to remove it CAREFULLY!). Note, if they are fried, removing solder won't fix them). Maybe you were static when you touched the ram chips. They are kind off sensitive. If they are, they are fried, sell your xbox for spare parts. [bold]5 - kernel - HDD not locked[/bold] (The retail xbox bioses require the hd to be locked) When you upgrade your hard disk drive for one that is larger, you most of the times use a new hard dri

the dvd drive. ALso try to reconnect the ide cable to the motherboard. Press pretty hard so it goes all the way in. Make sure it original xbox error 16 fix is seated straight and proper in the drives and the motherboard. If you still have an error 7. Try another ide cable. If that won't work try another harddisk. If there is still no go, try to set the jumpers on the http://forums.afterdawn.com/threads/xbox-error-codes-explained-go-here-first.373255/ rearside of the harddisk drive. My question I have is does anyone know a way to fix this permanently. I don't want to have to keep disconnecting and reconnecting the IDE cable just to play a game. Also I know this seem stupid that I'm posting this. Most of you will probably https://community.wemod.com/t/original-xbox-error-07-fixable/2862 say just go buy another one there cheap, but I just wanted to see if I could fix it. I don't know. Thanks for reading this far... Love, Alex < 3 Joe_ 2013-07-08 06:56:58 UTC #2 Hmm, I remember mine always getting this. I can't remember how I fixed it though :L I know I never opened it. Ya, I have read that you can reset the xbox to factory settings with a unique code but I don't know what mine is. You have to call Microsoft support and ask for the code but I don't think they have a support team for the Original Xbox anymore. I think I may have to buy another one that works. The code is different for every Xbox and from what I can see there is no obvious way to figure out what the code is. The code does exist and may solve problems on some of the Xboxes out there. If you can get to the system status screen you should be able to enter the code. What is it really? Some sort of software reset. It will blank out your saved games and blow away any saved songs. This is sometimes useful for consoles with error 07 that occurs after boot up (i.e. you can get to system info) and possibly other errors... Source Revurt 2013-07-08 12:17:00

You need a new harddrive, no two ways about it. While it is possible to install a new drive into a softmodded xbox, (you need to have backups of your drive and eeprom from before it died), it is no fun...Buy a mod chip and a new harddrive. Then installation is quick and easy. You will need to get a copy of an autoinstaller that has the original system files to build the new harddrive. I recomend slayers... I have 2 soft modded xbox's I did myself and I wanted to update the dashboard on this old one and somewhere i've screwed somehting up. I'm either getting a Error 7 or it sticks on the loading screen (both pictured below as well as my ancient mod chip). I read that error 7 was usually the ribbon being loose, so I checked then replaced the ribbon...same problem. I thought maybe if I could get the XBox to boot up with slayer I could fix the problem by reformatting the hard drive but..no go, can't get it to boot to disc. I know the dvd drive workd because I tested it in another xbox. I also tried a few different hard drives, one from another xbox...still a no go. so any ideas? or is this thing dead in the water?
