Fixing WSUS sync error "WebException: The remote server returned an error: (403) Forbidden." ★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★ August 25, 2010July 2, 2015 by J.C. Hornbeck // 2 Comments 0 0 0 Here's an issue we see every once in a while in product support and since I didn't see it documented very thoroughly anywhere else I thought I would do a quick write up in case you happen to see this some day on your WSUS box. Issue: When the WSUS attempts to sync with the Microsoft update site, either automatically or manually, you may see the following error: An HTTP error Occurred WebException: The remote server returned an error: (403) Forbidden. at System.Net.HttpWebRequest.GetRequestStream() at System.Web.Services.Protocols.SoapHttpClientProtocol.Invoke(String methodName, Object[] parameters) at Microsoft.UpdateServices.ServerSyncWebServices.ServerSync.ServerSyncProxy.GetAuthConfig() at Microsoft.UpdateServices.ServerSync.ServerSyncLib.InternetGetServerAuthConfig(ServerSyncProxy proxy, WebServiceCommunicationHelper webServiceHelper) at Microsoft.UpdateServices.ServerSync.ServerSyncLib.Authenticate(AuthorizationManager authorizationManager, Boolean checkExpiration, ServerSyncProxy proxy, Cookie cookie, WebServiceCommunicationHelper webServiceHelper) at Microsoft.UpdateS

Solved WSUS permissions/403/IIS error Posted on 2007-06-23 Microsoft 403 forbidden IIS Web Server Windows Server 2003 Active Directory 1 Verified Solution 13 Comments 4,460 Views Last Modified: 2010-05-18 I just installed WSUS (Windows Server Update Services) 3.0 on our Windows Server 2003 Standard R2 machine (x86) and performed the initial sync. I then tried to access the client update site (http://servername/selfupdate) on a client machine and http error 403 I got a 403 error. After searching the net for 30 minutes and not finding much, I decided to set NTFS permissions to all directories installed into IIS by the WSUS setup to give the IUSER_machinename account read access. This didn't work and I then tried giving the Everyone group read access, but this still didn't work so I tried giving everyone full permissions, which also didn't work. I made sure all necessary ports were open in the firewall (and they were), so I'm completely at a loss as to what is going on. I just uninstalled WSUS and reinstalled it so I would have a fresh start. The machine is also a DC using AD, but I don't think that has anything to do with this since I'm trying to use the IIS site. Join Now Good Afternoon, I thought this would be a no-brainer since I have migrated WSUS servers on w2k3 boxes before. Now, I am migrating a server from W2k3 to W2k8. I've installed WSUS as a role, copied my WsusContent folder to the new server and specified it during setup, and copied my database over as well. I can connect to the console remotely, but have noticed these errors in the event viewer. Event ID 13042 - Self-update is not working. EventID 12002 - The reporting web service is not working. EventID 12032 - The server sync web service is not working. EventID 12042 - the SimpleAuth web service is not working. EventID 12052 - the DSSAuthentication web service is not working. If I restart the Update Services, these are triggered as well. So, on the client end, I get the error in the windowslog file: 2013-10-07 15:01:04:066 1000 f84 Misc Validating signature for C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\SelfUpdate\wuident.cab: 2013-10-07 15:01:04:071 1000 f84 Misc Microsoft signed: Yes 2013-10-07 15:01:04:074 1000 f84 Misc WARNING: WinHttp: SendRequestToServerForFileInformation failed with 0x80190190 2013-10-07 15:01:04:074 1000 f84 Misc WARNING: WinHttp: ShouldFileBeDownloaded failed with 0x80190190 2013-10-07 15:01:04:077 1000 f84 Misc WARNING: WinHttp: SendRequestToServerForFileInformation failed with 0x80190190 2013-10-07 15:01:04:077 1000 f84 Misc WARNING: WinHttp: ShouldFileBeDownloaded failed with 0x80190190 2013-10-07 15:01:04:079 1000 f84 Misc WARNING: WinHttp: SendRequestToServerForFileInformation failed with 0x80190190 2013-10-07 15:01:04:079 1000 f84 Misc WARNING: WinHttp: ShouldFileBeDownloaded failed with 0x80190190 2013-10-07 15:01:04:081 1000 f84 Misc WARNING: WinHttp: SendRequestToServerForFileInformation failed with 0x80190190 2013-10-07 15:01:04:081 1000 f84 Misc WARNING: WinHttp: ShouldFileBeDownloaded failed with 0x80190190 2013-10-07 15:01:04:081 1000 f84 Misc WARNING: DownloadFileInternal failed for http://WSUS01:8530/selfupdate/wuident.cab: error 0x80190190 2013-10-07
