I am setting up a simple website on Windows Server 2008 R2 under IIS 7.5 using the "ASP.NET v4.0" pool. I am setting this up as an application under Default Web Site with a different http://stackoverflow.com/questions/11111911/iis-7-5-403-forbidden root. I keep getting the 403 Forbidden error. I have: Installed asp.net using aspnet_regiis.exe -i (many times) Made sure my root directory (physical path) has permissions for "IIS_IUSR" and "IUSR" users. Made sure "Anonymous Authentication" is enabled and set to "Application Pool Identity" I have restarted IIS numerous times I have checked and double-checked every other configuration. What's strange is that I have another application under Default Web Site and it works just fine. Any suggestions will help. This shouldn't be so hard unless I am missing something obvious. asp.net windows iis iis-7.5 share|improve this question edited Jun 20 '12 at 12:24 asked Jun 20 '12 at 2:05 dotnetster 8811818 Questions on professional server- or networking-related infrastructure administration are off-topic for Stack Overflow unless they directly involve programming or programming tools. Is it intended to allow anonymous access? Or only allow selected users/groups? 1 Poblano OP Mstewart30 Oct 28, 2013 at 8:14 UTC It is set to allow anonymous access and everyone has full control. 0 Ghost Chili 403 forbidden OP Kelly Armitage Oct 28, 2013 at 8:17 UTC Any "denies" on that folder? They will take precedence over "allows". Have you compared those permissions to any other site you have, that works? Is it a public site I can test? 1 Cayenne OP Jason5373 Oct 28, 2013 at 8:19 UTC You need to setup permissions accordingly in the IIS manager and make sure your "share" (if any) permissions as well as your NTFS permissions are set corectly. Are the files/folders local or are they on a virtual access is denied directory, I.E. Different machine? 2 Datil OP Sean Donnelly Oct 28, 2013 at 8:34 UTC Agree with Kelly on the ownership and permissions on the folder. One other thought might be do you have a default document set on the site, or more specifically do you have the correct default document set? Can you view http://localhost/? 1 Poblano OP Mstewart30 Oct 28, 2013 at 8:37 UTC There aren't any denies. It is an internal site. The permissions are set exactly like one of the others that is working. The files and folders are local. 0 Poblano OP Mstewart30 Oct 28, 2013 at 8:45 UTC I have a default document and tested it. But I still cannot get it to work. 0 Poblano OP warrenjmeyer Oct 28, 2013 at 10:20 UTC Is it straight HTML or a language? 1 Poblano OP Mstewart30 Oct 28, 2013 at 11:20 UTC Straight html, it has one index file in the folder. 0 Tabasco OP Best Answer cloudjerry Oct 28, 2013 at 11:53 UTC try it on http://localhost?
if you copy the index file into the default c:\inetpub\wwwroot, it works, right? for the 403 forbidden, when viewed on http://localhost/to_your_index_file the error message is more, could you paste it in, the more detailed one? 1 Pimiento OP ShabirHakim Oct 29, 2013 at 6:16 UTC Hi there can be lots of reason behind forbidden error.just go to log. %SystemDrive%\inetpub\logs\FailedReqLogFiles and publish your log. we can easily trace it. 1 Poblano OP Mstewart30 Oct 3
