I can access static files in public folder (public/500.html or 422.hml). Yesterday I entered through a vhost, and found some passenger errors. But some time later the hosting restarted the service, and since then I have http://stackoverflow.com/questions/18106085/im-getting-403-error-using-passenger-for-rails-in-apache not been able to access the rails app again. link link link These are some of the links I used to configure the server. I've also read that could be a permission issue; I've checked that, but I'm not sure it's fine. ruby-on-rails apache passenger vhosts share|improve this question edited Nov 4 '15 at 11:34 Arslan Ali 8,46661841 asked Aug 7 '13 at 14:27 narc88 131128 403 forbidden error is permission issue. Check the document root and make sure that index.php is having 644 permission. Also make sure that the index.php is having user ownership as that of 500.html which is able to access. –Leo Prince Aug 7 '13 at 16:30 This is a Rails app, working through apache + passenger. I can access local files, like images. But when the rails should be responding, gives me that error. –narc88 Aug 7 '13 at 16:33 add a comment| 4 Answers 4 active oldest votes up vote 14 down vote First of all check your error log. By default, it placed at /var/log/apache2/. If you have client denied by server configuration issue, check your site conf file at /etc/apa

I am hoping someone can help me. I am new to Nginx. I usually use Apache for setting up passenger 403 forbidden my rails servers but decided I wanted some experience with Nginx. I followed the tutorial located below for setting up my server: http://karolgalanciak.com/blog/2013/07/19/centos-6-4-server-setup-with-ruby-on-rails-nginx-and-postgresql/ Once I was done with this tutorial, I attempted to hit my sample application with a browser and got the 403 error. When I checked the error log I get the following: 2015/04/07 09:59:37 [error] 30642#0: *1 open() "/apps/my_app/public/tasks" failed (2: No such file or directory), client: ##.##.###.##, server: www.lovell.direct, request: "GET /tasks HTTP/1.1", host: "www.lovell.direct" I installed lynx to see if I could hit it via a browser without having to hit the web but I then get a 404 error where the error log says the same thing but the host is localhost instead of the domain address. I saw in some of the questions that the answer was making sure I had a default route which I do. And also to make the files executable which I didn't understand that. I am not sure why I would need to make my views executable (if I understood correctly). I a
