Oct 03, 2011 https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/200475 07:42 PM|lawsonium|LINK Hi everyone. This is my first venture into web servers so please be patient. I have a decent technical level of understanding having worked as a programmer/developer for about 10 years but I have come to a dead end with this and am seeking your help. I am getting the classic '530: User cannot log https://forums.iis.net/t/1182101.aspx in.' error when trying to access an ftp site on Windows Server 2008 web ed. (note: this error does NOT state 'home directory inaccessible', it is JUST '530: User cannot log in.') I have followed the step-by-step guide at: http://learn.iis.net/page.aspx/321/configure-ftp-with-iis-7-manager-authentication/ over and again until I am exhausted. I have gone over everything and I just can't get it to work. I have managed to set up FTP Publishing on the 'Default Web Site' and log in using the administrator account (which is a windows account obviously). So the firewall is not the issue. It seem that no matter what I try, I can't access an FTP site using an IIS Manager account :-( I am seeing an entry in the Security Logs called 'Audit Failure' which is a Logon failure and it lists the IIS Manager account I am trying to log in with as the failed Account Name. The reason it gives is 'Unknown user name or bad password'. This suggests to me that the 'Host Name' i

I'm working from 530 user cannot a Windows 2008 Server with IIS 7 installed. To create the FTP user directory I've followed this eHow tutorial. The FTP site is already set up on IIS 7, so I skipped that bit and followed the rest exactly. However, when I try to connect via FileZilla, I get the following errors: Status: Connecting to xxx.xx.xx.xx:21... Status: Connection established, waiting for welcome message... I'm following this guide: http://learn.iis.net/page.aspx/321/configure-ftp-with-iis-7-manager-authentication/. After set up, I cannot login to the FTP using an IIS Manager User account. The client error I got was 530 User cannot log in. Win32 error: Unspecified error. Error details: An error occured during the authentication process. I tried both with or without a virtual host. A Windows account login fine. The only strange thing I noticed was that when setting up Read permission for Network Service, there was an access denied error when setting up permission for "%SystemDrive%\Windows\System32\inetsrv\config\schema". Any thoughts? Thanks! iis ftp share|improve this question asked May 5 '11 at 5:36 Jim 297314 add a comment| 3 Answers 3 active oldest votes up vote 7 down vote accepted Turned out I didn't install FTP Extensibility. There were two sub-items under FTP Service in IIS Role Features. I only selected the first one and didn't enable FTP Extensibility, which IIS Manager User and ASP.NET Membership rely on. share|improve this answer answered May 7 '11 at 10:39 Jim 2
