[7.5 FTP Server 2008 R2] Dec 12, 2009 03:49 PM|Instinct64|LINK This ftp client is the first time I have ever setup IIS, I have been extremely impressed on how easy it is to get going on the whole, however I have hit one problem I have gone to the furthest lengths to fix myself and I just cant work it out! The FTP service, despite following good guides on this website, refuses to work for me! No matter what I do with permissions (even allowing Anonymous Login) I get this error: "Response: 530 User cannot log in, home directory inaccessible." Process Monitor Output: http://img121.imageshack.us/img121/8315/ftpissue.jpg I am just trying to get Basic Authentication working with Windows Users. I cannot make sense as to why there is no error. (Using IIS from within Windows 2008, not from iis.net) Any troubleshooting assistance is most appreciated! Thanks -- Chris FTP 503 home directory inaccessible Reply qbernard 7037 Posts MVPModerator Re: 530 User cannot log in, home directory inaccessible. [7.5 FTP Server 2008 R2] Dec 13, 2009 01:54 AM|qbernard|LINK That will be IIS 6, are you using any ftp user isolation feature? The best way to trace this is still via filemon or procmon, this will shows where IIS is sending the user to. Don't filter the procmon first, i think you can look at where IIS is sending the user to. But I get the above error when I try to login to this site. But I can login to my other FTP sites. Also, when I select this website from IIS Manager, the FTP section does not display in the middle section although it does display in Action panel. And I cannot successfully login to this FTP site either. I have checked and I have Log on locally selected. I do 530 user cannot not have allow only anonymous connections. I have Access this computer from the network selected. I restarted my IIS and FTP services also. The one different thing I noticed about this website in IIS different from the other site that has FTP working is that this one there are 3 virtual directories beneath the site. And that when I click on any one of these 3, then the FTP strip does appear in the center pane. Make sense? How can I debug cause of this error? Any SW tools I can use? iis-7 ftp windows-server share|improve this question edited Jul 28 '10 at 22:15 asked Jul 28 '10 at 17:54 salvationishere 1,3361774128 did you ever get this resolved? –D3vtr0n Apr 8 '11 at 16:35 1 I dug around the interwebs quite a while trying to figure this out. Low and behold IIS allows me to add an IIS user as an FTP user. NOPE. You have to add a windows domain user and then specify that user in your FTP Authorization rules... So add a user test then in the textbox for allow rule you use the radio button for windows user then type test. –The Muffin Man Apr 23 '14 at 6:42 add a comment| 10 Answers 10 active oldest votes up vote 9 down vote Have you tried logging in from the FTP server? following error occurs: 530 User cannot log in, home Directory Inaccessible. Login failed. Solution: Note: (This solution is for MS-FTP Server only) This problem occurs when the home directory of the Default FTP site does not exist, or the user does not have Read permission on the home directory. Set Read permission on Default FTP Site and give Everyone Read permission on default FTP path. To Set Read Permission on Default FTP Site, follow these steps: Open Internet Services Manager. To open Internet Services Manager, click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel. Double-click Administrative Tools, and then double-click Internet Services Manager. In the Internet Information Services console, click to expand your server name, and then click Default FTP Site folder, click Properties. On the Home Directory tab, verify that the Local Path listed is valid (save this path), and that the Read check box is checked. Click OK. To Set Read Permission for Everyone on Default FTP Path, follow these steps: Open My Computer, browse to the directory checked in step 3 above (e.g. c:\inetpub\ftproot), and open its property sheets. Make sure that in windows account group, Everyone is listed on the Security property sheet. Under Permissions, select the Read access for the Everyone group. Use Allow to specifically allow access and Deny to specifically deny access. Note: If account group Everyone is not listed, you may add it by clicking the Add button. Be careful when using Deny. Deny takes precedence over Allow. Applying Deny to the Everyone group might close the resource to that level of access by anyone, including the Administrator.
