Error Access Violation At 0x00 Big Fish
#1 Trial User_Lywellyn_* Trial User_Lywellyn_* Guests Posted 19 December 2006 - 03:10 AM So yeah, I've goofed. I deleted the username and

passwords for the "control connection" in the shared drive options, and now any time I try to open the share options for my virtual drives, I get an Access Violation error: "Access violation at address

00000000. Read of address 00000000."Beyond that, I'm also having trouble successfully sharing drives. I had initially changed the username/password for the control conneciton, thinking it had to be my Windows username and password (which might be my problem.) I'm using the Microsoft iSCSI Initiator version 2.03. I tried to follow the instructions exactly as the FAQ concerning this states (slightly different as the 2.03 version of the iSCSI Initiator is different than error access violation at 0x program terminated the one presented in the FAQ), and I couldn't get it to work. Authorization would fail, or something like that (I can't remember the exact error, and since I have the above problem, I can't reproduce it yet.) I tried setting CHAP settings for both one-way and two-way authorization, and it still didn't work. One thing of note: I was trying this on one machine to test it. That is: The client computer was essentially also the server computer. Does this have anything to do with it? The firewall is open for the correct TCP port, as well. I'm hoping you can help me set up sharing as this would definitely be a selling point for me to buy your software (at least the 52% version if not the entire 120% package). Please assist, and my system report is below. Thank you.{System report removed by ptolomeus3} Back to top #2 ptolomeus3 ptolomeus3 Forum Support Support Team 5,144 posts Posted 19 December 2006 - 03:57 AM Try deleting the Starwind-related key from the registry. I looked at your profile - I believe that 256mb of memory is a little tight for video editing. However, that will just slow you down. I would recommend at least 512mb with 1 gig even better. On to the problem. You may try configuring the WINAVI app in the "Program Compatability Wizard" to Windows 2000 Compatability Mode and Disable Visual Themes. I have seen several apps that are having problems running after the installation of SP2 and the latest MS updates. This usually fixes the problem. If you need more help let us know. What type of files are you converting? If it does it with all files, then the problem sounds like the conversion program, not the OS. I would go to the WinAVI site and check if they have a forum and ask them. You could also r

If not, add a tool like madExcept and wait for error reports else use the debugger and look at the stack trace. –Lieven Keersmaekers Feb 10 '10 at 13:37 This is from the old Turbo C days, Under the debugger,Add a watch to the pointer variable pointing to location 0, the just executed line when stepping into it, that caused the pointer variable pointing to location 0 change value is the line that messed up. Mostly a pointer error... –t0mm13b Feb 10 '10 at 13:46 Tommie, there could be many pointer variables holding the address value zero. Why set a watch on any of them? Changing one of them would not cause this error. This error occurs when the instruction pointer is zero, but you can't set a watch on that because it changes on every instruction. Which debugger tells you the previous executed line? That debugger would make it trivially easy to solve this problem. –Rob Kennedy Feb 10 '10 at 13:51 3 The answer you accepted isn't telling you much, IMO. –Heath Hunnicutt Feb 10 '10 at 20:41 add a comment| 9 Answers 9 active oldest votes up vote 27 down vote accepted An access violation at anywhere near adress '00000000' indicates a null pointer access. You're using something before it's ever been created, most likely, or after it's been FreeAndNil()'d. A lot of times this is caused by accessing a component in the wrong place during form creation, or by having your main form try and access something in a datamodule that hasn't been created yet.
