Internet not working - failed to query tcp/ip - ipconfig internal error Started by magogami , May 07 2010 05:59 AM Please log in to reply 3 replies to this topic #1 magogami magogami Members 10 posts OFFLINE Local time:01:56 AM Posted 07 May 2010 - 05:59 AM I ran a couple of spyware scanners and my AntiVir scanner, but after eliminating what they found, I can't get on the internet anymore. When I try to repair the connection, it immediately pops up with a box saying something like "windows cannot continue repairing... failed to query tcp/ip." I've tried numerous things but they haven't done anything. It says the connection is connected even though the internet isn't working. I also had to reinstall winlogon32.exe and winlogon86.exe because my computer wouldn't log on (it would begin to log on but then immediately log off again). Also, I tried to use System Restore, but the restore points must be corrupted or something because each time I try to restore to an earlier time, the system restore says "installation incomplete," so I guess that is out of the picture? I am able to make new restore points I just can't restore to the points.I get this when doing any ipconfig commands in cmd:"Windows IP ConfigurationAn internal error occurred: The request is not supported. Please contact Microsoft Product Support Services for further help.Additional information: Unable to query host name."There is a yellow exclamation point by the TCP/IP Protocol driver in Device Manager.

I replaced the network card, but the new one does the same thing. When I enter IPCONFIG, XP shows this error (in standard and safe mode): Internal error occurred Request not supported Unable to query host name If I start the system with a boot cd the PC runs fine, so the problem seems to be in the XP installation. http://serverfault.com/questions/135404/request-not-supported-in-ipconfig-winxp-sp3 I tried: uninstalling and reinstalling the network card in the Device Manager disabling and reenabling the card netsh int ip reset netsh winsock reset catalog and a couple of "reset" programs (WinsockxpFix.exe, etc) with no luck. Is there any way to fix it without reinstalling XP? It sounds like the TCP stack is screwed up. Have you tried this KB article? share|improve this answer answered Apr 24 '10 at 3:29 uSlackr 5,6001027 add a comment| up vote 0 down vote I like uslackrs response since it has the fixitnow thing! share|improve this answer answered Apr 24 '10 at 3:55 tony roth 3,183811 add a comment| Your Answer draft saved draft discarded Sign up or log in Sign up using Google Sign up using Facebook Sign up using Email and Password Post as a guest Name Email Post as a guest Name Email discard By posting your answer, you agree to the privacy policy and term
getting IP address. The laptop was not able to get IP address and I got the following error when I ran ipconfig. Windows IP Configuration An internal error occurred: The request is not supported. Please contact Microsoft Product Support Services for further http://deinfotech.blogspot.com/2012/02/ipconfigan-internal-error-occurred.html help. Additional information: Unable to query host name. Checking the system event log revealed the cause of the problem. The DHCP Client service failed to start because of TCP/IP Protocol Driver service failed to start. The DHCP Client service http://www.techwarelabs.com/community/showthread.php?t=3030 was indeed stopped as shown in the Services console. The next entry showed that the TCP/IP Protocol Driver service failed to start because the IPSEC driver service failed to start. Finally, the next entry gave the reason why IPSEC an internal driver service failed to start. The system cannot find the file specified. To view the status of the TCP/IP Protocol Driver service and IPSEC driver service, go to Device Manager, click on View menu and enable Show hidden devices. On the right pane, expand Non-Plug and Play Drivers. Looks for TCP/IP Protocol Driver and IPSEC driver. As shown in the above pictures, TCP/IP Protocol Driver and IPSEC driver are having some issues. The properties page of TCP/IP Protocol Driver an internal error and IPSEC driver showed that both services were stopped. Furthermore, the Driver Details button on the IPSEC driver properties page was greyed out. This was because the IPSec.sys file was missing from the C:\Windows\system32\drivers folder. I copied the missing IPSec.sys file from another machine, rebooted the laptop and the problem was solved. This includes checking security settings (enable/disable/configure WEP as needed), add your MAC address to your AP's access list, if necessary, and make sure your SSID is correct (capitalization *does* matter). __________________ Techware Labs p14nd4.com TheLittleMan.net Omega View Public Profile Send a private message to Omega Visit Omega's homepage!
