Re: unknown error has occurred while discovering dynamically-related files Ben M Jun 21, 2011 8:55 AM (in response to Dom Hare) Are you running anything such as Mod_Rewrite or "friendly URLs" on your Joomla testing installation? If so turn off that option on your testing server and see if that helps. If not we are going to need a lot more specifics such as which file you are opening/trying to edit, XAMPP version, host OS, etc., etc., etc. Like Show 0 Likes(0) Actions 2. Re: unknown error has occurred while discovering dynamically-related files Dom Hare Jun 21, 2011 10:15 AM (in response to Ben M) Joomla testing installation.. I havn´t installed one! :-(Had the idea I could open a Joomla template in DW just like any CSS site and XAMPP would "run the code" for me to get a live view.Going to go ahead and assume that was my mistake and start again:1 create a mysql database2 install Joomla in xampp/htdocs3 install template via Joomla4 create a new site in DW (xampp/htdocs/joomla/mytemplate) and setup testing server.T
edit Joomla Templates with Dreamweaver. Published June 22, 2011 | By Stephen Note: This tutorial has been checked and moved for CS6. For the CS6 tutorial view this tutorial. In this tutorial we will show you how to set up Joomla(1.5 or 1.6) in Dreamweaver CS5 so that you may edit the CSS of your layout while still making good use of Dreamweavers great productivity tools. One warning before we proceed though, Whilst working with Joomla in Dreamweaver do not edit any of the core Joomla files. This goes for all of Joomla's PHP and CSS files. Only work with the CSS files directly assosciated with the template you are working on. If it isn't a CSS file you should probably not be using Dreamweaver for this task. If you touch anything else the risks of you breaking something are significant. https://forums.adobe.com/thread/867794 Dreamweaver CS5.5: How to edit Joomla Templates with Dreamweaver. First thing we need to have a few things ready before we begin. We must have XAMPP installed and running. We must have Joomla already installed and running including our databases set up. We must have our template that we wish to work on ready to go. As the purpose of this article is not to show you how to do these but rather how to set Joomla up in Dreamweaver CS5 I will leave you to set these http://www.ripperdesignandmultimedia.com/2011/06/22/dreamweaver-cs5-how-to-work-on-joomla-templates-with-dreamweaver/ things up. Make sure that while in Joomla you set the template you wish to work on as your default template. Also have XAMPP switched on and running. Step One: Open Dreamweaver CS5 and select Site >> New Site. On the window that comes up to establish our new site we need to give our site a name then for local site folder we need to navigate to the folder that holds our Joomla site. This is usually the htdocs folder or a folder within it if you develop multiple sites.Step Two: Now on the left hand side of the site set up window click on servers then hit the add new server button. It should look like a plus symbol at the bottom of the server list (which should be blank at the moment). In the basic server information area we need to give the server a name. Call it localhost and then set connect using to local/network. For the folder you need to set this the same as the folder you declared in step one of this tutorial. Now we need to set the Web url. If your folder you just declared is the htdocs folder you need to put simply http://localhost/ in here. If your folder is inside that folder you need to add the name of that folder onto the end of it. In my example I am doing the folder is joomla_1 so I need to put http://localhost/joomla_1Step Three: Now click on Advanced server options. Down the bottom where it says Testing Server change the Ser

Dreamweaver has a handy feature with which it lets you discover all those files. Sometimes this works great - and sometimes you get the error message above. I was stumped by this when a site I was working on seemingly threw Dreamweaver overnight. Was was going on? The secret is Permalinks. Dreamweaver has a problem discovering and resolving related files if you've set Permalinks to anything other than the default. This problem has been around for a while, ever since the introduction of this feature in fact. Here's a quick and dirty workaround ==> Open your site in Dreamweaver and wait for the message at the top, telling you that there are related files to be discovered. Hit "Discover" and get the error message. ==> Next login to your local WordPress site via a browser and remember what the current Permalinks are set to (under Settings - Permalinks). ==> Choose the Default (first option) and hit save. ==> Go back to Dreamweaver and try the discovery option again. All related files are discovered - hurray! ==> Head back over to your WordPress site and change the Permalinks back to what they were, then hit save. I know this is a bit hacky, but until Adobe can figure out a working solution this is as good as it gets, and not really that cumbersome. I'm confused… how do I set this up? When do I discover files? For this feature to work you need to setup a site in Dreamweaver and declare a Testing Server. You also need MAMP or WAMP Server running on your local system. When you declare your testing server make sure to check the Advanced tab and set it to PHP MySQL. Now when you open your WordPress site's root index.php file you'll get the message to discover related files. Dreamweaver can only discover those by processing all PHP code - and that's what it needs MAMP / WAMP Server for (just like your browser). Note that you cannot discover related files on remote sites.
